Didn't like the Ataris version, but loved the original by Don Henley and I actually like the DJ Sammy version.

I heard a scary cover of Come as you are. No clue who sang it but it sounded like modern jazz with female vocals..slow female vocals.

Come......as you are...
As...you were..
As I want you to be..

there are some good cover songs, but IMO, for a cover song to be good, it needs to bring something new to the song other than new vocals.

cross-gender covers are usually good, and I loved Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt," because he turned a rockish song into a slow, sad, country song.

hmm remakes are usually about showing you were influenced.

If it takes off, the people agree.

Anybody who attempts a Led Zeppelin song other than Led Zeppelin themselves - that includes that bug-eyed piece of trash Puff Daddy, or whatever he calls himself these days.

Guns' version of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is good too. Original by Bob Dylan correct?

The end all answer to this thread is 'Behind Blue Eyes' by the Who as butchered and raped by Fred Durst.

I'm sorry, the correct answer is "Another Brick in the Wall" as "performed" by Korn. Your answer was considered, but could not compete.

Oh, come on! As much as I love PF, Korn's version was a decent compliment. It obviously does not surpass the original, but I don't think that's what they were trying to do.

Now, I will agree that their version of Metallica's "One" was pretty bad..

Have you seen your doctor yet about your hearing? I'm afraid deafness is approaching much more rapidly than they first thought.

agreed. when i first heard that i wanted to puke my guts out.

"butchered and raped" just doesn't seem sufficiently harsh enough. But I'm at a loss for words: Is there anything worse than "butchered and raped?"

Some covers I like

Pixies version of Head On
Nirvana's Molly's Lips
The Cult version of Born to be Wild
Breeders So Sad About Us

Rufus Wainright Hallelujah > Jeff Buckley (or anyone elses).

Can't go the Live and let die thing...very good, but not necessarily better.

Also should point out:

To Make you Feel my Love - Garth Brooks (original by Bob Dylan (then again, most everything was originally Dylan it seems))

Simple kind of man - Shindown (original by Lynard Skynard I think)

maybe I'm just a Wainright hater (all his songs sound the same after awhile), but I much prefer the Jeff Buckley version.

I do like the Rufus Wainright cover of The Beatles' "Across the Universe," though.

Okay how about this...since it's been covered by like 30 people:

Either Rufus or Jeff Hallelujah > *

It was some female country singer doing a wretched version. Slowly clawing a keyboard with fingernails would have sounded more pleasant to my ears!

Ah. So you too have heard of Martina McBride.

If that's who did it then yes, I unfortunately have. If the rest of her songs sound that crappy I wonder how she's made a dime.

but then you have the genius remakes, like the Scissor Sisters "comfortably numb", this mortal coil "song to the siren", etc.
