Must have games for Playstation 1

Just acquired my first Playstation 1 system since the late 90s and I've forgotten which games are really good. I've already got Crash Team Racing, and am not a Final Fantasy fan at all What other games (other than Final Fantasy) are must-owns?

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a classic
Vagrant Story is AMAZING
(it IS a Squaresoft RPG, but nothing like Final Fantasy)
Metal Gear Solid is a good time.
Darkstalkers 3 and other Capcom fighters (Street Fighter Alpha Series, EX series, etc) are pretty faithful ports.
Silent Hill and Resident Evil started the whole survival horror trend going on to this day.
Tekken 3 is an awesome port of a solid game.

Really, aside from maybe Castlevania and Vagrant Story, you're not going to be really impressed if you have a latter-gen system as sequels and the like that have come out for them (Resident Evil 4, Metal Gear Solid 3, Tekken 6, etc.) really improve upon the formula. But if you've been out of the loop for a while, they should prove quite entertaining.

Xenogears...... maybe. Honestly the gameplay on this is mediocre @ best, but the story is amazing/bizarre.

Nice on the mention for Vagrant Story. One of the most underrated games of all time. That shit is so amazing the first time you play through it. So unique. I love the style of it. Based on a French comic book. WTF. I'd say the gameplay itself is decent/good, but the total package is amazing. Great graphics for that POS.

The best games for the PS1 are all really expensive. You should pick up a softmodded PSP if you wanna play all the classics without breaking the bank.

I know you mentioend that you dislike final fantasy games, but if you're even remotely into turn based strategy, i would seriously give final fantasy tactics a shot. Its significantly different than other FF games, and an absolute classic. Still play it regularly.

Turn based strategy isnt my thing, I like games where you can attack as fast as you can mash the button. Are there any adventure games like Zelda? Or sidescrollers (other than Mega Man)?
