Just got mine yesterday and I'll be the first to admit that google has come a long way in addressing my issues with android - outstanding little device!

What are some must have apps? I'm using it as an organizer so office/productivity focus would be great but I'll check out whatever. Have $25 to spend, after all

The "font pack" ripoff sucks (though you don't have to get it), and you have to turn off update/upgrade notifications in the settings, but OfficeSuite Pro 6 is by far the best word processor. Too bad it's not on sale for $1 any more.

(Unless you use Splashtop HD anyway... Though the payment model for Splashtop 2 is even more of a ripoff.)

Thanks guys! So far I like (I have ADHD so staying organized is how I justified the very fair $199 purchase):
Jorte (widget sizes are weird on the tablet and I can't resize them as well as most, still open for a tablet calendar suggestion)
Evernote
Aldiko
Kindle
Colornote (trying Classic Notes now)
Flipboard

Don't quite get novalauncher since the stock jelly launcher works so well.

Going through the other suggestions now.

Question - eye candy games (just to show off ), any suggestions? I'm on tegra 3

I would get the Tegra Zone App if you are looking for eye candy, it will show you all of the Tegra optimized games available on the market. Shadowngun THD is one nice looking one that comes to mind off of the top of my head.

In another thread CalenGoo has gotten a lot of praise, I haven't tried it myself yet though. ezPDF seems to be most peoples go to pdf app but if you want a free alternative I've been pretty happy with qPDF.

Pure Calendar Agenda is the best widget, but it doesn't stretch elegantly wider than the 5 columns of its largest native size.

I use Pulse instead of Flipboard.

Is that the best video player? I downloaded the free version and it seemed to not like some of my audio tracks. Not sure why. It defaulted to playing with no sound, which was corrected by switching audio tracks.

vplayer lagged a bit at times, but I don't know if it was just because of their instruction pointer overlay at first launch.

I'm curious if anyone here has tried VLC for the Nexus 7.

I know others elsewhere have tried it varying success, but the Neon version seems to work.

Super Video. Movie player with the added bonus of being able to have a smaller window that sits on top of everything else, so you can continue watching your video while doing something else.

I use Dice Player. It plays just about everything via HW acceleration and it supports SMB streaming so I just play everything off my network. No ads either as it changed to donationware earlier this month.

I like Dice, but it's problematic for me. I posted my description here:

Dice is still problematic with a lot of my files. For several of my MKV files, it says it's not compatible. Dunno why. Note though most of my files are HD, with lots 1080p, with several over 4 GB. (I don't want to re-encode everything, and Tegra 3 is supposedly more than capable of 1080p H.264 up to 40 Mbps, according to Nvidia.)

He's hoping VLC gets working quickly, and gets well hardware optimized. Right now VLC works with some workarounds on lower bitrate files, but chokes hard on 720p and above. I think it may be trying to do everything in software, as it's super slow.

I like Dice, but it's problematic for me. I posted my description here:

Update the Dice player app to today's version and also enable the missing DTS support. I only had one file Dice wouldn't play out of 400+ and now that plays after today's update. I knew it could play that file because it was able to in some of the earlier builds of Dice player. Last couple of updates borked it but now it can play that file again after today's update.

I have zero interest in VLC for Android. They're late to the party and far behind others in functionality and support. The app and project I'm most interested in is the XBMC Android port. If it's anything like the iOS version, it's going to rock. XBMC is the best media player bar none for all platforms.

Thanks. I updated with that companion plug-in but DicePlayer became unstable. However, then I updated DicePlayer to yesterday's release as you suggested, and it works fine now. That overlay window for video viewing is an interesting idea, and it does work for SD content quite well. That overlay is not good for HD, but HD works perfectly (DTS and all) in the regular mode. I even tried MKV files upwards of 15 Mbps, and they worked fine with no playback hiccups. I was even able to wirelessly stream directly from my NAS via samba. (WiFi on the Nexus 7 is pretty decent.)
