I saw some people fly past a police car doing that. There were two police cars nearby, actually. They were both pulled over...I wonder if they got to drive themselves home that evening.

The guys in that video must have been well over 100mph, perhaps 120 to 130 since he was past 3rd gear. Drag racing on a public highway == douche bag.

Seems like a fast Mustang but...
How do we know it is a turbo?
How much was spent on it to get it that speed?
How do we know it is a ZR1?

True. Even so its quite impressive.

We really know nothing about either car. Impressiveness not found.

He has the same exact race but from inside the mustang, note the ZR1 badge and the ridiculous turbo spool. Does that help?

I think you could do a turbo kit on something like the 5.0 for about 10k, but at these power levels he may have a fully built motor which would be much more expensive that that all wrapped up. EDIT: Description says 7 psi... so probably it's a stock motor

There's nothing super impressive about the video, it's actually rather slow for a turbo V8, I just loved it for the people in the ZR1's reaction. Must be a humbling experience when you've got a $100k+ car to get beat by a "pony car"

RE-EDIT: Here you go Arkaign, There's a 67mm turbo kit out there for < $7k, I'm sure you could get it installed and tuned for under $3k. Just as long as you're fine with throwing any semblance of a warranty on a brand new mustang out the window.

try making that mustang go in something other than a straight line. that's where the rest of that $100k goes

True, but it's really a pretty good value when you think about it. I mean the new Mustang GT handles pretty darn well. So for $40k wrapped up you could have a car that outhandles maybe 90-95% of whats on the road and in a straight line can outrun 99% of it. Versus the ZR1 where that extra $90k or so gives you the 99% in both categories.

Always cheaper to compare modded cars to stock though Not a fair comparison. Although in this case I feel it's an exceptional value. I doubt at 6 psi you'd really run into any serious longevity issues

It used to be a huge gap between the Mustang and the Corvette, and Ford has really closed it up dramatically. Can't wait to see what the C7 brings. Some news about it by the way- apparently only two parts carry over from the C6 (a cabin air filter and one of the handles, hah!) I really hope the C7 drives down used C6 prices

I'm quite happy with my supercharged 2011 Mustang GT. I installed the kit, drove to the track 100 miles away (drag radials on the back) ran back to back 10 second passes, and drove home with the AC on and bluetooth playing the tracks from my phone.

Hard to beat for the price!

I'm actually impressed that ZR1 was able to keep up!

We are talking modded vs stock

That turbo kit somebody posted looks kind of sloppy. What's with the turbo outlet (it's tiny) and Intercooler air path is covered. I'm sure it still produces good HP numbers but I'm also sure that properly done Turbo 5.0 would eat the ZR1 for lunch and some.

Here is a good example

Not too expensive either.

"BullittEdyR & Bryaneffinturner battling it out in a turbo 2012 5.0 & a ZR1 on Russian highway"

Who do they think they're kidding?

Using Google-Fu and my screenshot ability, I find that they are on Interstate 69 in Texas, North of Houston.

Screenshot from first video.

That's kind of a joke in street racing videos- the "Filmed in Mexico" thing. I don't think they were actually trying to mislead anyone. There's also "The following footage is entirely computer generated" or whatnot

Haha yeah I noticed that as well.

I wonder if the ZR1 guy just "borrowed" it from his rich dad or something. Those kinds of cars, particularly Vettes, seem to rarely get driven much above legal speed limits, at least around here.

I much much more often see someone hooning the piss out of a WRX, Speed3, Civic Si, etc.

Sounds to me like the guy in the passenger seat of the ZR1 was the owner, at least I'm guessing. Hence the "Don't go into first gear... wait okay I guess that's okay"

There's a whole slew of richies that do stuff like this regularly. Look at the gumball rally! Those people usually integrate radar jammers in their bumpers and stuff like that... license plate blocking, etc. Sketchy stuff. I think the guys in this video were just having some fun however.

I'd guess the Mustang has about 650hp based on the results. It weighs about 3600lbs, while the vette makes about 640 weighing in at 3400lbs. Love the no lift shift sound of the ZR1. With a pulley/tune/headers, that ZR1 can be easily pushed to 750hp.

Not as interesting as the message you sent me in my PM box:

If the ZR1 is programmed like the V, it actually is designed to hold rpms if you no-lift shift to prevent a drop in boost. It also makes the experience a little more scary since the car pulls very hard going into the next gear.

What did you do to provoke that? Out of the contributors to the garage forum you keep it pretty civil like most others. I can only think of one or two that could be a target for such a message.

what's weird is that I haven't been posting much at all lately. sorry for hi-jacking the thread. I forgot we have a personal issues forum.

Also, why is it surprising to see a boosted 5.0 do well?

Sounds like this was from another thread, why not report the activity to a mod or just add him to your "ignore" list..

I understand there are a couple of sick-in-the-head banned members who occasionally create new accounts and start sending nasty PM's like that.

It was more in the open when people could report it on the personal issues forum and comment on it. Hell, that used to be one of my daily visits before they made people post in the 'private' one where you don't get to see other posts.

The 5.0 is making more than 650. You can get 650 easy with a blower, so figure turbo on the same boost/octane is usually another 50-100.
