Well if you love it then more power to you but we've had this game what it is, 4 times already? I don't need to play the same game 5 times over. It's a yearly recycle. It's the Madden of FPS's except it doesn't even benefit from roster updates.

and it looks way worse graphically. although the water and lighting did have some nice moments

Does anyone know if it's the same engine as the last in the series?

It's the same engine going on 6 years now that they've been using since Call of Duty 2. It's just been tweaked and tweaked with every game.

I still don't understand why people compare these games, as outside of being an FPS they're quite different styles. Arcadey and fast vs. realistic and slow. Troop focus vs. vehicle focus. Lone wolf vs. squads and teams.

Both series have their bugs. BF2 was epic, but crashed CONSTANTLY on my system. BC2 has incredibly annoying texture pop in on rocks. And of course the CoD series has had problems with bugs, hacks, and non-dedicated servers. Still... it all boils down to which TYPE of shooter you want.

I don't want any slower games, BF is my limit. Are you telling me that both games offer the exact same gameplay to appeal to the exact same people with no difference in style and pace whatsoever?

I completely stopped caring about MW after the multiplayer went in the toilet. The single player campaigns in the MW games are worth about 5 bucks, which is why I'll rent it for PS3 and then forget it.

I still need to rent BLOPS and run through the SP.

Black Ops was the first COD where I didn't even finish the already short single player. I understand COD games are supposed to be linear, but blops is just too linear.

I had lots of fun playing MP but that got boring after a while too. Battlefield games have more lasting appeal IMO. I still have fun playing BC2 even though it's been out for over a year now.

What the heck is going on at IW? You can't put this down to just video compression artifacts.

Also, in motion BF3 looks much nicer. Some of the physics in that MW3 trailer look pretty janky, and BF3 has some nice motion blur and lighting effects.

That MW3 video is quite clearly taken from the console version of the game - shitty textures, low res etc. I doubt the PC version will look any different, except for screen res and AA.

The COD games have always had trouble with convincing physics for some reason...

They lost everyone that mattered. MW3 is probably going to be horrible, but the general masses will eat it up and new IW will think they did a great job.

I'm no longer interested in Modern Warfare for $60, if they want us to pay $60, they need to do major improvements to the engine and game play instead of just unleashing a 'Campaign Pack'. Now it's just a fat cash cow with terrible developers, would be a great game if it came with a time machine.

I said they are the kings, the two most popular by far in the 'genre' of FPS.

In no way did I say they were alike at all beyond both being first person shooters

they have different style and pace

and one is a lower common denominator POS and one is trying to get/be better


I am not that fond of MW2, or blops. W@W is by far my favorite COD game thanks to the insanely awesome 4 player campaign coop. they promised real coop in BLOPS so I preordered it on sale, and they screwed me.

I got MW2 to play Spec Ops with my brother over the net.

The Modern Warfare franchise has been reduced to rehashing the same game every year just adding different maps and a few mods that the PC modding community could probably do better. A short Michael Bay type scripted single player is not worth $60 bucks.

I've bought every COD since the first and I will not be purchasing MW3 this time around.

I had a great time with all the COD solo campaigns... up until BLOPS.

The game was unplayable for the first month it came out due to glitches, and it just left a horrible taste in my mouth.

I eventually went back to it, but my heart wasn't in it and maybe(?) got 1/3 thru the solo campaign.

Here's hoping BF3 comes out strong and relatively bug free.
