MW3 legit questions not a troll thread

Ok guys this is not mad to be a pissing match I have some legit questions here.

I have a $50 best buy gift card that someone gave me and BB has the game for only $49.99 right now so I can get it for basically the price of tax. BB doesnt have anything that interests me so I thought why not get the game from there but I have some questions first.

If I get the game from best buy can I use the key code and install it thru steam instead of using the disc? I would rather have it tied to the steam account and not have to use the disc whenever I want to play it because this coming holiday sale I plan on scoring a bunch of pc games.

Those of you that play the game normally how do you like it? I mainly play hardcore modes and I am getting really burnt out on call of duty 4. I heard that the only dedicated servers are for unranked modes and that is fine with me. I am trying to play the game and have fun and if the ded servers are there I am sure unranked is where I will spend a lot of time.

How bad are the cheaters? When I played MW2 on pc it was god awful, it wasnt every game I ran into a cheater but if I play unranked on ded servers will cheaters even be a issue?

I will say thanks in advance and I am sure I will have some more questions later. Feel free to chime in and answer questions and post what you like about the game. I dont want to see anything about the game blows because thats just gonna start a piss match here and that is not my intent. I cannot get into BF3 at all so I am only left with COD and I really enjoy the gameplay so MW3 is my only real option, I just want to hear some input from people who actually play the game regularly

I'm pretty sure you'll be activating the product on Steam regardless of how you buy it through retail channels. Once activated, you shouldn't have to worry about a disc since it will be tied to your Steam account.

You'd probably enjoy it more on Xbox honestly. MW3 is not a popular PC game due to it being sooooooo rehashed and PC gamers being burned with garbage like MW2/Blops. I'm sure a fair number of people probably picked it up to run through the SP campaign, but easily 100x the players will be on Xbox or even PS3.

I hate playing FPS on controllers, but whatever. The xbox crowd seems to love that crap.

There are rank hacks to get up in rank. For aimbots/ESP, there isnt a viable one out there.

The PC version is still "clean" for now in terms of aimbotters ruining every match.

yeah cod 1 and cod 2 were epic games. I have no clue if people still play it or not. I play cod 4 every day and there is tons of games to play

I dont have a console and I refuse to buy one just to play cod. I ordered MW3 just now from BB since I had a $50 gift card as a xmas gift, I ended up paying $3.54 I think for it since it was on sale for $49.99.

I am too burnt out on cod4, I really need to play a newer game the graphics really kill me on that game. Sure the gameplay is nice but after a while I look at something and just laugh. I checked steam and it showed todays peak users for MW3 and it was a tad over 56,000 people. I am sure with that many people I can find some good games to play.

The graphics for MW3 aren't any better or worse. If the graphics bothered you with your other game, this one won't make you feel any better.

I honestly don't think he was trolling, he was being truthful. I believe I did read somewhere that they are still using the same graphics engine from CoD4.

With fellow FPS shooters (Battlefield 3 and Resistance 3) resorting to new game engines to boost graphical and gameplay prowess, Call of Duty is sticking with an ageing Modern Warfare 2 engine. It looks like the Call of Duty that will be coming out in Fall will look very similar to Modern Warfare 2 because Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Raven Software will be using a modified Infinity Ward version 4.0 engine that was used for Modern Warfare 2.

Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward Community Manager, tweeted the Infinity Ward community not too long ago about Call of Duty running on a new engine. “That would be counterproductive. An engine takes years and years to develop and get right.” In business terms…if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. The previous Call of Duty games have made a ton of money (at the expense of server issues) and in their thinking…why would they change a thing.

Errr...so because I said something you don't agree with, I get called a troll? Makes total sense. Especially since I actually like the game. Anyway, the game uses the same engine as the other one. The graphics are the same. Any improvement you're seeing is in your imagination.

Yeah and there's a good reason it looks basically the same. The primary platform is X360, and investing in a new engine now would be a waste of $$, as the 360 wouldn't be able to really utilize it. They sell probably 40 or 50 console copies of MW games for every 1 sold on PC.

I agree. When you already have an existing engine and a team who've worked with it before, it pays off in sequels as you can spend more time creating models/textures/content even when the underlying engine is the same.

It's easy to hate on CoD because of it's simplistic nature and repetitious regurgitation of nearly the same game in annual installments, but it's not really all that bad in the big picture. I just think it's overpopular because of console noobs hyping the hell out of it. Which is exactly what happened with the Halo series before it. It's like OMFG a FPS shooter! We've never seen this before!!!! Amazing! It buys ALL OF THEM.

LOL that is too funny. I feel Call of duty is seriously over hyped but at the same time I just cannot get into battlefield for nothing, so I am basically forced to play Call of duty if I want a FPS shooter that's worth a shit.

Got a quick question guys. I bought the game at BB as a retail hard copy. I activated the game with steam via the key code. Steam is making me download the game from them before I install it and it is taking forever. The game has been downloading for 5 hours now and it says there is still 6 hours left to go.

How can I do this differently. Is there a way I can stop the download from steam and manually install the game from the disc and still have it to where I can just open steam and play it without the disc manually being in my dvd drive?

Not like i had time to play it yet but I want to play it tonight and that aint gonna happen with 6 hours of downloading left let alone not even installing it yet LOL

Yes, there are alot of people that still play COD1. Well, by alot of people I mean like 500 or so...

IIRC from another thread, you can explore the disc and find the actual setup program. Run that and it'll install MW3, then Steam will just patch it.

FWIW I played about 6 hours of MW3 today, it's a great game.

From what I read on steam forums today people were saying there was some update that came out recently and it was causing steam to re download the whole game. If I launch the installer it comes up with re install or uninstall. It only has about 2 hours left so I dont want to mess with it a mess anything up. I waited this long may as well let it finish doing it thru steam

By the time this finishes it will be 1 in the morning, i started this at noon today so 13 hours holy smokes. I tried every idea i could online to do it with the disc and it wont work. One idea was to delete the local content folder but it wouldnt let me because it said the file was being used my MW3 dedicated servers.

I dont know I just hope that once it finishes the damn game installs and works
