Are Dedicated Servers Ranked or UnRanked?

Only matchmaking to public games are Ranked (meaning, you have to rank up to unlock weapons to rank on the leaderboards), choosing to play on a Dedicated Server is UnRanked. Meaning unlocks are completely controlled by the Server Admin. They can choose to unlock everything or limit class restrictions to whatever they like to fully customize the experience. You do not have to rank up in Public games to have access to weapons in Dedicated Servers, you have complete control over what is unlocked for you in a Unranked Dedicated Server.

man i play blops on dedicated servers with the same general folks and unofficial rules (like no noob tubes, no last stand, warns and kicks for not playing objectives) are why i play on those servers. Since Ranked stuff is only via the random bullshit like MW2 was, I guess my BF3 preorder makes more sense now!

So, what's wrong with that? Is it an issue because players are under the control of the admin of a Dedicated Server? How is that different than, say, TF2?

If I'm remembering what I read earlier correctly, you can't level up and unlock weapons on dedicated servers. However, what weapons are unlocked are completely up to the server admin's discretion. Meaning that dedicated servers could have everything unlocked for you right off the bat.

Still, not having ranked dedicated servers where you can level up normally seems kind of stupid. It's also possible that there are ranked dedicated servers, and this is some sort of a miscommunication. Forcing all ranked play to be P2P is a really dumb choice.
