Hi all, I know most of the AS5 and Ceramique installation has been covered before and a lot of people, especially Jedi feels that regardless what HIGHEND thermal paste is used, it doesn't have any difference. But oh well, this thing is just as avalible so why not get my self one =D

Anyway, I have noticed on the official installation instruction, it specifically said "Do not spread", but in other places, i was told to apply a minor amount to both the HS and cpu, wear a plastic bag over my finger and gently spread out the thermal paste to cover the microscopic valley on both the CPU heat spreader and the HS base, THEN apply something about the size of a rice in the middle and use the heat sink base to spread it out.

Will this be a better method that simply squeeze, sit HS, move it a lil and voila?

Also, what is the recommended "burn-in" for the MX-1? I figured that it could be similar to a AS5, since the paste is said to "harden and achieve optimal performance after a period of time" So i guess I should do the whole burn-in thing. What exactly do I do? have my CPU running with dual prime for...? Once I have the system up and running, I'll report back with records of my temp.

Thanks in advance!

Actually you are misrepresenting what I stated....
I never once said using any old thermal paste will give you the same results as AS5...

What I said is using the thermal paste that is shipped by Zalman..or ThermalRight or Thermaltake and for that matter alot of other top companies will yield you the same results in most cases as using AS5 in place of whatever is shipped with your Heatsink....

Hi Jedi, didn't realise that you would reply so quick.

I think i didn't make it clear enough in my post, so sorry about the misconception
What I meant was that any HIGH END GREASE, let it be AS5, ceramique, shin, thermalright or CM, according to your experience does not offer any realistic difference in temperature =)

So, what is your recommendation? do i have it on full load for about 24 hours or..?

Hi Howard, for some weird reason, I can not use the search function attatched to the foru, so i cant locate the other posts....
One of the other thread reported that to cover the microscopic valley, it would be the best if you can thoroughly apply a minor ammount the the CPU and HS base....

Yeah, since the upgrade on Saturday the Search function has been broken.

The easiest and most consistent way to do it is to put a small drop in the middle and let the force of the spring squeeze it flat. This way, you won't have any air bubbles or areas where the compound is not completely filling in the space between the heatsink and heat spreader.

And i tried to clear my cache, reset my user setting, reboot my pc.....MEH!

Ok, it seems that the drop in the middle is probablt the best thing to do, but i do like the idea of pre-smeard compound filling up the valley.

The thread i was talking about was the one that involves discussion of using razor blades and finger wrapped in plastic bag.......
