I've got an mx500 atm, and i was thinking about the mx518, which i just found out about recently. Apart from the variable dpi possibilities, what is better about this mouse in comparison to the mx500. One thing about I like about the mx500 is it's solidity. I heard this mouse is lighter?

mx518 is supposed to be awesome but still rather new so i don't think you'll get much feedback ...

I have been using MX500 and MX310 (MX700 briefly, wireless are too heavy IMO) and got MX518 some time ago. Cant really say there is a big difference, it feels a bit more responsive that MX500 but other than that it's about the same.

The adjustable dpi setting does not really do much for me. 800dpi seems to be perfect for me in desktop and game use. BTW I'm using Func 1030 mouse pad.

A bigger problem is that the Setpoint software the latest Logitech mice use sucks. Logitech in their infinite wisdom do not allow you to map freely functions to mouse buttons. Without Logigamer uber-options software I couldn't set the bigger thumb button to be 'double-click' and the smaller thumb button to be 'back'.

Was MX518 waste of money for me then? No, it's still the best mouse I have ever used and for the foreseeable future it will be my primary mouse.

Hey
Im currently using a wired microsoft optical mouse, but wanted to get something better.

I was thinking MX700, or MX1000. They seem a bit pricey, but if im buying a new mouse anyway, i want something good. But from some of the posts here, it seems most of you prefer wired mice... The only thing i was really worried about was lag with a wireless mouse, but is that even worth worrying about with a mouse such as the mx1000?

If i were you i would get the Razer Diamondback (i like mine, and it has a nice long cord too, so its as good as wireless from that respect hehe!)) or a MX518. Wireless isnt worth the slight response lag and charging up, unless you use your pc from the other side of the room IMO.

wireless means less cord tangling, i dont really like corded ones anymore, my MX700 is perfect in games, although this is with a huge mousepad and i have probibly just got used to it

If you have a large desk a wireless might be a good idea. I prefer corded though.

Lag is absolutely NOT a problem with the MX1000. The only drawback I have seen with it is when you pick it up and set it down it takes a second to become responsive to movement. That's a non-issue for me, but some people threw tantrums over it when the MX1000 came out.

anyone that says there is any noticeable lag with the MX700 or MX1000 hasn't used one before

Well, the MX1000 doesn't seem to have lag problems by most accounts, and it comes with a charging station. Also, it's batteries are meant to last for a week or so b4 they need charging. So Im just wondering, is it worth paying double just to get cordless?.

depends if you would find that helpful. I like it just for ease of transport and to have less wires running all over my desk

Put both mice in your hand and see which is more comfortable. For me the MX1000 is leaps and bounds ahead of the MX5xx for fitting my hand.

I had an mx700 for almost a year before I moved to the 518. The difference in response was noticeable.

i've never found wires to be a problem with computers, and i'm using 5.1 speakers which have LOTS of wires. I used to do LAN gaming alot aswell, so I'd have to "unbuild" my computer and "rebuild" it wherever the LAN is, and it was never any hassle.

I have the MX1000 and I do have the set down lag but to be honest, it doesn't ever bother me even during gaming as I have a giant mouse pad. But one thing's for sure, this mouse is the MOST comfortable mouse I've EVER owned and I have tried the mx5xx series. It's just not big enough. I love my MX1000. Having said that, I am going to give the MX518 a whirl since I quite fancy a try on that adjustable DPI.

If you're not a hardcore gamer, I would really recommend you at least try out the MX1000. All of my friends that have tried it, love it due to its comfort. If you're a hardcore gamer, only you can tell whether the set down issue (assuming you have it) bothers you.

Ok, thanks. I'll try to find a shop where i can test them 'n see which fits better. But in Perth, that's gonna be a bit of a challenge.
