The MX700 wireless mouse is just $4 more that the MX510 on Newegg. Is the MX700 as accurate as the MX510? How long do the batteries last? Which one is a better buy? I like to play FPS's like UT2004.

Get the MX510 if you are gaming a lot.

I love cordless mice, but wired is still better for games.

As for batteries, the MX700 comes with a charger...so they should last a long time!

The MX700 is alot heavier than the MX510 because of the batteries.

I have a mx510, and like i have stated before, it is the best gaming mouse ever made. Nothing comes close.

It takes a week to get used to it and you MUST install the software that comes with it or you will not get the full performance of the mouse

I just switched to MX510 from MX700, the 510 is much lighter and feels smoother in games so if you don't mind the wire, go for the MX510

I like the MX700. Wireless, batteries last 24 hours+ with gaming, and I like it being a bit heavy.

the mx510 and mx500 are basically the same mice, expect the 510 has slightly better features 800 dpi etc. Also the cool look. But in size and design, they are same

The MX510 is capable of 450Hz polling whereas the MX700 is limited to 125Hz. There is a hack for WinXP to enable 250, 500, or 1,000Hz polling (note: it could damage hardware and cause other USB devices to cease functioning, so just know that there is a risk with it update: check out this great little guide by Raziel -- it seems that risk of hardware damage is very low, what happens is that the device will either work or it won't and the backed up usbport.sys file will restore the functionality). This increase in polling reduces the intervals of polling from 8ms to 2ms which can make a very noticeable difference in gaming, but you will have to re-adjust to it. To take care of the wire if it proves bothersome, there is a nifty new tool for that

510 for gaming like everyone else said ...

The MX700 though is a great mouse (I highly reccommend it for a cordless mouse) ... there's usually a sale on amazon + rebate for it. Currently it's $32.00 after rebate + free shipping.

Actually, the 510 has better specs than just a nifty look... 15g acceleration as compared to 10 with the mx500 AND the mx700... also, 510 captures 5.8 megapixels, whereas the mx500 AND the mx700 both are lower, at 4.7. All three mice are rated at 800 dpi. If you can't deal with the cord, I say go with the mx1000.... you'll get what you pay for. Otherwise, the 510 is definitely the way to go.

Quoted for truth.

I have an MX500 (basically the MX510, only slightly less megapixel resolution IIRC), and I love it. I have tried both the MX700 and MX1000 (we have demo units of both at the store where I work) and I don't care for them. The odd weight distribution because of batteries and the offcenter optical lenses make for some wonky cursor movement sometimes.

Edit: the 510 also has higher G tolerance than the MX500, but really, if you can break 10g, you must be throwing your mouse around the room.

definately the mx510 since you play fps's. I hear a lot of complaining about wireless mice from my fellow shooters

I was about to start a new thread, but I figure I can just ask this here...

I used to use a MX700. It worked good in everything including games, but I hated the poor battery life (had to charge at night AND during the day). I got a MX1000, and I love the battery life and general usage, and it works well in UT2004, but it's crap for Counter-Strike.. do you think I'm better off just getting a MX510? Seems like it would help...

supafly, can you explain why it`s good for UT but bad for CS?.....I presume you`ve all the usual gaming tweaks like teflon feet on your mouse etc.

It's not too easy to explain, but in CS it seems really jumpy and unsmooth, where as it feels like any regular mouse in UT.
As far as tweaks, no, my mouse is still factory.

supafly,I read the MX1000 is better with the acceleration on high so try that, also try not to be too far from the receiver, maybe try moving it to a different position. I would always recommend a good mouse pad even with a good mouse like the MX1000.
