From what I have read (I am gonna purchase one of these mice) the MX 700 uses only a different optical engine than the MX 1000. The wirelss aspect is identical.
With that being said the optical engine is extremely more accurate with the MX 1000. You will get more accurate tracking than any other optical mouse, and on any surface. Many have/will argue that it is the same if not better an actually rolling mouse.
The ACTUAL issue I have seen/heard with this mouse is that several of the zealous gamers like to slightly lift their mouse while moving it, and they like it to continue to track while doing so. Many optical mice cannot do this at all, but some of the optical mice can. The MX 1000 based on its laser optical engine cannot function when lifted from the desk/pad at all. You might have heard to it referred to as "lag" where as it is more appropriate to say that it does not track movement off a surface. I haven't had the luxory of ever owning a mouse that could function when lifted slightly of a surface so for me its not an issue. If you find that you are constantly lifting your mouse and repositioning it, and would like it to track movement while you are doing so then you should stay away from this device and wait for a model that will allow you to do so.
I am sure that this technology will be further advanced and made more availabe in the near future, giving us differnt models, and manufacturors to choose from. If you aren't sure what to do, think of it like this. There will be something better, or more excepted on the market in another year at least so if you will want to buy a differnt moue then, then perhaps you should go with a cheaper solution.
As far as "wireless" mice go yes they generally are terrible for gaming, but Logitech (the MX 700, 900, 1000) and Microsoft (not all MS mice just one or two) both use a very acceptable wireless method that rivals any/all wired mice.
The statement "wireless mice are terrible for gaming" lacks any real proof in regards to the mx 700, 900, 1000, and the one or two MS mice available.
Well at least none that I can find. Some people will fall victim to the placebo affect after hearing comments regarding how terrible wireless mice are for gaming (which is generally true for standard wirelesss mice), and therfore convince themsleves that they can "feel" lag when using one of these mice.
The only differnce between wired mice and the MX 700, 900, 1000 is not even detectible by humans.
However I am open to some facts contradicting my opinion, but yet to find any.
Check out this review if you if you want to knwo more, or you think all wireless mice are bad.
