I got a set of 650 myself. Which amp(s) do you drive your 650 with? They don't make them anymore, but I use a Gilmore V2 to drive the big cans in my collection.

the gilmore v2/dynalo is a great amp.

Sorry OP, but from your previous posts I assumed you were like 21, alone, and working some dead-end job. I had no ideal that you had found the time to discover women. Who would have figured?

Don't worry dud, I'm still exactly as you described! Except I turned 22 last month D:

A guy I work with had the bluetooth Beats Wireless headphones. Initially, everyone made fun of him for overspending on them but he insisted he got them on sale and it was less than $100 (they weren't, I'm pretty sure he paid full retail). I didn't think they were terrible - they actually had pretty good range but definitely very overpriced.

He lost them a few weeks back and was looking for a 'reasonably priced' replacement. I asked him to try out a few Sennheisers in the $50-$100 range because that's what I'm familiar with but he just has something against the brand. I asked him to try the Grado SR-60i - I don't own them but often hear it's the greatest deal in headphones for less than $100.

Last I heard on the topic, he asked his fiancee to buy him these for Christmas. I am kind of curious to try them since I'd personally never spend that much on a vanity brand.

You just can't reason with some people. But you can tell 11-year-olds to learn to be reasonable with their wants.

Nothing so good as yours - Just my NAD T754 receiver at home and a NuForce for when I work weekends. While adequate, I don't think either is fully up to the task, IMHO. I have a Peachtree Nova 150 on order which should arrive this week. While the truth is I really got it for my new KEF LS50s, the Peachtree's headphone circuit is also supposed to be a superior bit of engineering. I have some other things planned over the next year, but if for some reason that doesn't work to my satisfaction then I'll add a dedicated amp to the list of potential purchases. I'd like to try a tube setup, so Schiit and {if I really go nuts} maybe Woo...

Yesss.... I hear the peanut gallery formulating their puns now.. :sneaky:

If I had a kid it would get dollar store earbuds.

Nothing mo' gangsta than slangin' insanely over-priced headphones to 11 year olds.

V-Moda M80 Crossfades

I swear by these headphones. If you haven't tried V-Moda, you're missing out on some top notch gear. Lightweight, comfortable, all-metal. The on-ear design means you're not going to look like a tool or have your ears break out in a sweat.

He already has some decent entry level Sennheisers but all his friends talk about Beatz. I will not waste money on them so I am wondering how are the knock off's in comparison? does anyone here have a set?

I have tested several and when it comes to music, especially those who like clear bass, beatz is at the top of the food chain. They are not so good for watching like netflix or movies though. When I broke my beats earbuds, I tried several. I can safely say that Monster's Ncredibles are really good and I kept them. Very good bass and nice clarity, very nice clarity, resonable, $60 dollars. But if its music, want the best, its beatz, they are really that good.

So explain to him that the quality just isnt there and that there are better headphones for the price.

Oh and also to stop being a lemming and blindly following his friends would also be a good idea.

LOL, you can always tell the ones that don't have kids.

When you get a son in school, let me know how that advice flies.

Parenting fail.

So you are going to get him fakes and hope he does not notice... so you are the good guy.... be a man and say no. Period end of story.

That poor kid. Showing up at basketball practice wearing Nyke shoes, a LeBron James Cleveland Cavaliers jersey, and iHome headphones plugged into a Coby MP3 player...you know the one in the group that's always the butt of the joke?

I have read a lot responses and they are way off. They are expensive, but trust me, once you hear music through them, everything else pales. But the Ncredibles are pretty good, closest I have found. Still miss my beats, but at $150 for the earbuds and I can take my music on a little less enjoyable experience.

Beatz headphones just aren't accurate. They're intentionally voiced very bass heavy, made to look nice, and marketed strongly/well at their intended demographic. I'm not saying they're "wrong" or "bad", since ultimately it's all Product. But they're a poor choice for anyone who values correct frequency response, transparency, and proper soundstaging.

I suppose you could look at it like the whole Santa Clause fantasy. However, in the Santa Clause fantasy, every kid pretty much figures it out down the line, whereas in the American label whore fantasy, some people never figure it out. I suppose you'd want to make sure you break the news to him eventually so the kid can grow up to be a respectable, functional adult.

I don't know about all that. But I do know this, I have tried Senns, Bose, Sony, V-Moda, Skulls, and many others. I bet I have listened to at least a 15-20 sets of headphones in the last 3 months. Whether they are correct or not, the clarity of music from them was better than them all. Period. Whatever they do to give that rich clear bass is not matched by others. Rock music through them is like a god send. Like I said, they were not bad for movies, but not exceptional, but for music, they are smoking.

I never said people didn't like them. Just that they were voiced bass heavy, and as a consequence aren't accurate. The fact of the matter is (most?) People don't care about correct, as long as it's loud and has a lot of Bass. Beatz delivers that.

This. Beatz was designed to play hip hop, rap, and pop music to make those types of music sound even better. Anything else and the music sounds almost comical. It's designed to be very bass heavy and boomy, but at least it does that and does that well without distortion.

However, there are several products that do the exact same thing audio wise and doesn't have the stupid price tag on them. Outdoor Technology DJ Slims are the same drivers practically in the Beatz. You won't be able to tell the difference in sound. Only real difference is on your bank account with a $80 msrp versus $300. SOL Republics are also very similar.

Seriously those are the same damn headphones as the Beatz with just a much better price. They even come in very stylish colors and what not if that is your thing.

OP, don't be a pussy. Explain to your dumb 11 year old that beats are terrible headphones with good marketing. If he wants to waste money on gimmicky shit, he can scrape together the money himself.

LOL, you don't know anything about audio, but you like them. Just because you've tried a bunch of headphones doesn't mean your opinion is worth a crap.
“In terms of sound performance, they are among the worst you can buy,” says Tyll Hertsens, editor in chief of InnerFidelity.com, a site for audiophiles. “They are absolutely, extraordinarily bad.”

Some food for thought, a lot of music now-a-days isn't close to produced, or mastered well. I have some mid end studio speakers on my PC, and I can speak from personal experience that it makes much of the music I listen to sound pretty damn bad. I hear every little flaw in a song, and there are just a shit load of flaws is it seems every album that comes out. The Beats are overpriced, but their lacking of detail can actually help a lot of music sound better. Also we don't even know what kind of music the OP's son listens to. If it's classical or jazz I'd say Grado SRi-60 or 80's. But imho they're a lot less good when it comes to bass heavy music. I listen to rap and Grado's are very meh. OP I'd suggest looking at the Koss ProDJ1000's, imho they're the best sounding sub $100 cans for non classic/jazz type music. Which I'm guessing isn't what your son listens to any ways.

If they are so bad, explain why do so many people want them and why this guy's 11 year old wants a pair. Let me explain it you. They sound awesome for music. If you listen to rock or hip hop, they are tremendous headphones. I have no stake in any of them, are they worth the price, well thats the case.
