My 3.2C is still running fine after all these years.

I am happy that Intel makes quality products, thats why I buy them. Im glad I have put my faith in a chip that has lasted for almost 6 years now. Hyperthreading is wonderful and millions of people enjoy it everyday.

Im wondering if I should upgrade from this awesome workhorse to an i7 or just wait for the next best CPU from Intel. Hmmmmm.....

My Socket 939 X2 4200+ is still working great after six years. The only thing that has gone wrong with the entire setup (A8N-SLI Premium with PCI-E 1.0, 1GB DDR 400, 6800GT) is the motherboard's BIOS battery died. I need to get around to replacing it.

Processors rarely go bad. I personally know some people still running Pentium and Pentium II computers. I'm sure there's people out there still running a 486 for kicks too.

With that said, a single core, power-hungry Netburst CPU has definitely seen its better days. Upgrading to a moderate modern system (i3 / i5 or Athlon II X2 / X3 / X4) with a decent motherboard, 2+ GB of memory, and a solid state disk will make you completely reconsider your love for the 3.2C. Of course all of that will cost you a pretty penny, so it's up to you to decide if your computer is adequate for what you do.

Surprisingly enough, my parents overclocked 2.4C is also steaming right along. I chalk it up to solid state capacitors on the mobo. All of the other P4s have had mobo deaths with leaking caps.

These days, I think using anything less than a Pentium III is foolish. However if someone can enjoy 2010 with a 486DX2-50, more power too them!

Well Ive replaced all of the compenents (video card, memory, drives, etc)over the years and have burned a mobo or two along the way, but the heart of the beast STILL PUMPS - the 3.2C!

My dell 400SC 3.2C caps burst at 16months old, 1 year warranty so Dell told me tough titties.

Cpu is still running great in a asus retail motherboard at a friends house.

My sister was running a A64 3000+ 1.8ghz up to 6 months ago, I upgraded her to a E5200 system, sold her old used stuff for more than the E5200 parts cost new. MB/CPU/RAM

gotta love people trying to keep real old system runnin way after it becomes not cost effective.

I have done this several times selling old parts for more than new way faster parts cost new, gotta love Ebay.

Yes!!

I used to spend thousands and thousands of dollars chasing the latest and greatest. But I currently dont have the computational need for something more, other than to FINALLY move up to 64 bit computing. But technically I could still wait.

So why not do a cheap upgrade like an AMD Athlon X4 620? Upgrades to a decent quad core setup are so damn cheap may as well take advantage.

My 3.4C on an 875PBZ, 2G RAM still runs great; solid as a rock; never a problem all the years I've had it. Just had to move to a more "modern" system for Windows 7 and Adobe CS4.

Ha. We've got a 1.8A still chugging with a 6800nu at the house for the step-siblings to use. The hdd sounds to be on it's way out, but that proc is going strong. had to replace the mobo about a year ago, but man, that thing is never turned off.

If it wasn't for ram prices he could just go buy a Athlon II X2/X3/X4 get a 785G chipset and be set. But ram actually costs as much as much as the CPU/mobo(w/IGP) together. Might be a step down though if he had a 9800pro or later graphics card. Could be close however.

Nice, northwood C's were good chips

I still prefer CPU's with pins. Todays motherboards are WAY to fragile. I think Intel was just tired of people bending pins. I sold about $40,000 worth of chips on Ebay and straightened out literally hundreds of them. I earned $10,000 in profit for my trouble.

Was it worth it? Yes!

CPUs tend to last a while if you don't abuse them. Still have old P2s and P3s that are going strong.

Nice! I did that a few times myself, only made a few hundred quid though.

Anyone remember that group of people on AT who were rockin P4EE chips when everyone else was on X2's and C2D's? Whats happened to them? They had their own thread i think.

Their electric bill drove them to bankruptcy.

Having worked with PCs for over 10 years, I still have not seen a busted CPU other than ones with broken pins.

So much so I assume if any PC breaks down the CPU is definitely NOT the culprit.

8 year old Athlon xp 2500+ running @ 2.23ghz its entire life on an nf7 f (when nforce 2 was king). Zero replacement parts other than a new HD when I handed it down, now running as moms main home office/media center.

Couldnt have asked for more out of that setup, though the fan on the 9700 pro is dying.

We'll see how long my x3 720 lasts at almost 1.5v/3.73ghz ...
