My 4G4A+ overclocking experience

After that 300+ message thread on the board, i decided to pick one up myself...
I previously had a Asus P4S333. With that board, i could only take my 1.6a to a 140 fsb for 2240 mhz at 1.7 volts, and my 1.8a to 136 fsb for 2448 mhz at 1.7 volts. cooling is alpha 8942 with 52cfm fan on all setups.

With the 4g4a, i have my 1.6a at 157 fsb for 2512 mhz at 1.725 v, running prime95 overnight =). i am happy...

Im gonna see what my limit is with this chip, then go on to my 1.8a

Great board, and i know some people were wondering if they could use 2 double sided ram sticks in this board...well i have tried both 2x256 double sided crucial pc2100 and 2x512 corsair xms3000 with no problems whatsoever. but then again, i have only run ram at 1:1 so far, cause i want to see the limits of my cpu's before i push the ram. will update with results.

Great Thanks for the info. I was getting tired of sorting through that 300+ post thread myself. I was worried about the ram issue, but I'm glad you addressed it. I'm going to be doing a lot of video editing, so I'm sticking in 2 sticks of corsair xms3200; glad to know you had no problems. Did you happen to install the intel inf drivers?

yeah i installed the inf drivers, so far so good, but then again havent pushed my ram yet.

if u up the voltage on the p4s333 to the same on the 4g4a, could the 1.6a go higher?

nope, went all the way to 1.75, and i still achieved the same OC as with 1.7 volt, so i left it at 1.7 volt

It seems all system are diff. I just got done with another P4S533 and it will run 160 at default voltage with the 1.6a, The worse one I have seen will do 155 at default with the 1.6a and all with the stock cooling

yep, 1.5V is the default for the Northwood's (P4 x.xxA).

Damn, 160FSB at stock voltage is pretty impressive! You must have got a nice processor.

Here is what it will do with puny Crucial PC2100. This is 1 stick of 256 mb DS. Every setting is max out except for CAS, it is set at 2.5. USB, LAN, Raid and onboard sound work great. Haven't installed the
drivers for USB 2.0 but I will very soon. Here are the results at 160 FSB using a 2.26B chip running at 2.72G. Memory timing 4:5 so DDR400. AGP bus@80mhz and PCI bus@40mhz:
