My 8500LE seems to be running slow.....HELP

LOL............oops hit the enter key.

Anyway, I had to opportunity to trade my GF3 Ti200 for a Radeon 8500LE (64megs). If you can go by Madonion ratings it should go faster right?

Anyway with all the tuning settings for performance and overcloced to 290/265, I only get 7500's with a P4 running at 2.6ghz. Seems like most of the poeple on Madonion are over 10000 with similar settings.

The question I don't wanna ask is "Do I need to reload?" or is there something obvious I have missed? I uninstalled my Geforce 3 from add/remove and then ran drivercleaner to get rid of it. (This brought of some errors about replacing system files though)

Or does the 8500LE only run this fast? (I really like the graphics on it though and don't really wanna go back, but I can.)

My 8500le overclocked to 300/300 is giving me a score of 9894 in 2001se with an Athlon 1700xp+ overclocked to 2.1 G. Are you using 2001se ? The newer versions are supposed to be flakey.

My version is the 128M but I dont know if it should make THAT much diffference!

Have you downloaded the newest drivers from ATI? Overclocking from 250/250 and the latest drivers gave me an increase of over 1000. (2001se)

Does having directx 9a installed slow things down. I know I couldn't even run earlier drivers with it installed. I have the latest catalyst drivers (3.2).

I think I will just plan on reloading and keep this thing. (Won't reload for awhile though)

I really like the picture compared to the Geforce3 Ti200. Right now I can tell this card is a bit slower but the clarity in games is so much better.

I could get about 9000 3D marks with my 8500le, clocked to 275/275. That's with a 1600XP stock settings running the 3.1cats.

I would try to uninstall and then reinstall the drivers. That was a 64MB card too btw. You should be able to squeeze more performance out of that card, you'll just have to tweak it a little bit.

Check your AGP aparture size in your bios, and make sure you are running at 4X AGP too. Also I don't think you'll be able to enable fast writes in Rage3dtweak, or the cntl panel, but don't worry about that, it makes 0 difference with the 8500.

Does turning off the ??Wait for Vertical Sync?? make a difference in 3Dmark 2001???

what frames are you getting in the nature demo?

it chuggs between 18 and 33..

my ti200 does (did) ~40

Yeah about the same as you. I came to the conclusion after every possible tweak had been tried that I was gonna have to reinstall to use it so I just threw my ti200 back in (too lazy to do the 30-35 hours of reinstall - lots of software and updates). Its hitting 9200 (220/500) in my system. I just really liked the way the radeon looked. Will be saving for one of its bigger brothers. That one will go in a clean install for a friend.
