I put on some heatsinks on memory chips like a year ago and I guess 2 of them fell off and must of caused a short cause now pc won't boot. Please suggest a good replacement not to far from the price of a new 9800 Pro.

I upgraded to a 6600gt this month. I am very impressed with it. However if you can afford a little extra money I would grab an x800xl ($270-$310).

Not like you can go wrong with a 6600gt though, I run D3/HL2 on high quality just fine .

Do x800xl cards come in AGP? I just don't remember seeing any. There certainly could be though.

I agree that the 6600gt is a very solid card for your price range. You can see for yourself how it performs in the HL2 benchmarks and even more specifically in this one where they show the performance gain vs. the 9800 pro.

DON'T DO IT!

There is nothing wrong with 6600GTs, but 6800NUs are better in every way.

Memory bandwidth is much higher, and you get the possibility of unlocking them into a "mini-GT".

I have three NUs and two 6600GTs, I know of what I speak.

Hey, for once I agree with Rollo. The 6800 has much more potential than a 6600gt. Besides, the 6600gt is only marginally better than a 9800p

You might also want to get an out of warranty repair on your 9800pro. I believe it is $75

If you are still within warranty replace it. Or call up ATI and see what you can do. After that sell it on Ebay. That so called "fan" does dick. My 9800 Pro died on me too.

Even dead 9800pro's are worth $40+ on eBay

Yes it's 128 bit, but so what? It beats 9800 Pro/XT by about 10%, and it's in your price range...

That would be perfect for the buyer. They could just RMA it and get a now one.
