I upgraded to a 6600gt this month. I am very impressed with it. However if you can afford a little extra money I would grab an x800xl ($270-$310).
Not like you can go wrong with a 6600gt though, I run D3/HL2 on high quality just fine .

DON'T DO IT!
There is nothing wrong with 6600GTs, but 6800NUs are better in every way.
Memory bandwidth is much higher, and you get the possibility of unlocking them into a "mini-GT".
I have three NUs and two 6600GTs, I know of what I speak.

If you are still within warranty replace it. Or call up ATI and see what you can do. After that sell it on Ebay. That so called "fan" does dick. My 9800 Pro died on me too.

Are there certain specs to it and isn't that 128bit?

Even dead 9800pro's are worth $40+ on eBay
