Any friends bring by someone you've never / just met?
Oh and just because someone is "family" doesn't mean they aren't a thief.

That's a bummer!

I got burgled @ 15 years ago and even though I had insurance, they stole my "peace of mind" and security about living there. I felt extremely violated and moved shortly after.

I hope this "not gonna happen to me" mindset doesn't extend to the health and vehicle insurance areas.

We had some trash try to break into our house 15 years ago or so. My Jack Russel apparently jumped up and bit his hand as he was reaching through the window to get to the lock. Never had a problem after that.

Man, I feel your pain. My house was broken into last year... bastards took my 58" DLP and my brand new PS3 (barely 3 weeks old). Fortunately insurance picked up the cost of a new TV (61" Samsung, woohoo!) so it wasn't TOO bad. Could have been a LOT worse... I'm more vigilant now about protecting my valuable stuff.

I've always wondered how people can steal large TV's like that

It was hell trying to move my TV into the house, and the amount of noise required would have woken me in an instant.

I was watching the show How safe is your house, and they showed that if someone gets a truck, puts a label on the side saying something like "Furniture Rentals Incorporated" they could back up to almost any home during the day while the owners were gone and clean out the entire house without anyone asking questions.

That's scary, and it makes sense. People will just think it's contractors doing work or delivering something, or if they're there all day, that maybe they're moving out or something.

It's almost a good idea to have cameras in the house so you can monitor it from work every now and then.

You had an xbox too? Fuck, me and pedro were in such a hurry ganking your tv we didn't even see it. We'll be back though. Just leave it out in the open to make it easier and we don't have to make a mess finding it.

submit a renters insurance claim for the MSRP of the television and go buy an even better one.

Updates....well nothing new. TV is still gone. I'm coping, frankly i never really watched TV in the first place, was just good for movies and games.

It most likely was an inside job as you couldn't see the tv from the front windows. Plus we were advertising for a new housemate. And my ditzy roommate made it a point to mention to everyone the dates she was moving out, and the dates I was going to be in Vietnam. Not to mention stating that the TV was staying in the apartment. That or the new guy has an enemy because his room was ransacked whereas the others were untouched.

The real estate company are being dickheads and still have not fixed the window (the latch, not the actual window) so we have to take the issue to the tribunal council. It sounds like I live in a ghetto, but I don't. There are just a lot of backpackers in the area so apparently this kind of stuff happens all the time.

WRT people who had their houses/apartments burglarized, how much security did you have set up?

(specifically, iron bars on windows, deadbolt door, etc?)
