Well I work 7-5 mon-fri. When I get off I usually go home and sit some more. Sick of it. My lower back feels like shit. I was in a truck stop type gas station the other day and saw a device that goes between your lower back and chair for $50 that claimed to help with back problems, etc.

What are you guys using to help your back pain from sitting down all damn day? I'm all ears. Not looking to spend $500 for a therapeutic chair or anything.

I've had back problems since I started lifting 5 years ago.. Never had a problem doing exercises that used the lower back to stabilize.

After 9 months of a desk job I feel just like you.. I find that leaning back in your chair really helps to ease the stress

stop being a lazy piece of shit after work and go be active. i sit at a desk 8 hours a day too and i cannot fathom how people can go home and do nothing after sitting on their asses all day.

Exercise. Sitting all day causes your Hip Flexors to shorten and your core muscles which support the spine to weaken. Use YouTube to find routines that you could do at home, or better yet join a gym or take some classes.

I was in the same boat not so long ago, but since getting back to the gym, i don't suffer from lower back pain any longer.

What about sitting on a pilates ball instead of your chair? It will keep you using your core muscles a little bit.

Another alternative would be a standing desk.

$300 = inversion table. Best thing I've ever bought, aside from latex foam mattress for my back. I'm also sitting a lot for work so have the same issue.

How about you stop labeling people you don't even know "pieces of shit" you self-righteous prick. You don't know this guy's backstory well enough to say something like that!

I sit at a desk 8 hours a day too. I go home a lot of times and just want to sit on my ass after a draining day of putting up with people's BS. I guess that makes me a POS too?..

Well, at least I'm a POS that keeps food on the table and the lights on, can fix most things around the house, work on my own cars, and teach my son the how to throw a 2-seam, a 4-seam, a circle-changup, and a splitter.

stop crying over words.

replace POS with person and you get the same result.

No, you don't...
Suggesting someone not be lazy != calling perfect strangers pieces of shit.

Are you really that callous?

you should try to not take the internet so serious. try reading it with a different tone and maybe you will understand how it's meant to be interpreted.

and in my book if you are lazy, you're pretty much a POS anyways.

for one, this is the internet, and two - it is ATOT! what do you mean not take it so serious?

OBLAMA2009, yup. sitting around all the time is killer. could be wrong, but something else i remember a while back is that your lymph fluid gets circulated by muscle contractions, so less exercise also has that detriment.

used to be in pretty decent shape when i was working a job that required me to constantly move. never had to go to the gym in those days. now that i'm back in an office job and have been for a couple years, I rapidly got out really of shape. it's amazing how fast it happened too.

Try not to paint YOUR actions of making remarks that are by design inflamatory and degrading as MY problem for "taking the Internet too serious". People are still people here Internet or not (I know, shocking!). I just don't understand why people such as your self think it gives you carte blanche to be an asshole and say shitty things and degrade others for no apparent reason?

If it's meant to be interpreted another way then please, explain. I don't know how many ways you can interpret calling someone a piece of shit...

you really like making yourself look like a moron huh? i'm in better shape than 90% of the people on this board. i play in a latino soccer league on thursdays. i'm pretty sure i've been a HELL of a lot more "active" than you'll ever fathom.

but thanks for stopping by cutie.

I've read multiple times that sitting all day at work, rather than getting up every hour or two and talking a walk (doesn't even have to be that far), is worse for your health than smoking. I don't know if it's that bad, but research definitely seems to point it ain't good for you.

I go for a walk every hour or two, even if it's just around the block (~10 mins or so). Dunno if that would help back pain but I don't think it'd hurt ya.

Go work out a few days a week after work.

i run 2-3 times/week. granted, i've slacked the last few weeks but i have no problem throwing out 2 miles and 100 push ups within 20-25 minutes every time i go out.

i'm thinking a chiropractor or at least x-rays are in my future. i got an x-ray a few years ago and my left hip was a half-inch lower than my right hip. i''ve done a LOT of wakeboarding for the past 6 years(25mph 5ft-12ft up in the air, slamming, crashing, etc). lost of snowboarding as well. granted, i've been fairly active in the past but feel like it's all catching up with me. i know i can always be in better shape, just looking for any kind of things to try AT work, while i sit 10 hours a day.

here is what i do to prevent back issues:

1. use a chair that has adjustable lumbar support
2. take frequent breaks (every 30 minutes or at least every 60 minutes) and get up and walk around
3. workout
4. sit properly (i know this sounds simple but you'd be surprised how poorly just about everyone sits)

taking breaks is also good to prevent eye degradation. during the breaks you can incorporate some light stretching to further benefit yourself.

good luck!

EDIT: you can also stand during conference calls if you have a headset.

that's a great idea actually. we have a pond 50 ft from my desk with a walking trail. maybe a walk around(half mile) every few hours would do wonders for me.
