My BCS conference restructuring plan.

ND is in the Big East in all other sports. I agree that ND doesn't want to be tied down to a conference schedule, but even if they were, they still could play USC and Navy every year. You have 12 regular season games, and 8 conference games. There is room for USC and Navy.

As for me, I kinda like ND not being in a conference. It leaves their schedule open, and we get a chance to see a lot of matchups we wouldn't normally see. That being said, ND is still stuck-up.

ND is not too good for a conference... they are Big 10 in all sports other than football. They are not "too stuck up". What does an athletic conference really do besides provide a base set of teams to play and provide television coverage? I suppose they distribute winnings from Bowl games...

Why join a conference when you can get all of your home games televised without conference support? ND does not need money or television support for their football program, so joining a conference would only hurt the Irish. Besides, joining a conference would likely dictate much of ND's schedule, and prevent the Irish from playing teams like USC and Navy year after year, which is a tradition for ND.

If the BCS made a rule saying that only conference teams can go to BCS bowl games I am sure the Irish would join a conference at that point. Until there are clear motivations for ND to join a conference, there is no real reason to do so.

USC is in a conference, that doesn't prevent them from playing ND and other good teams OOC each year

How about dropping the Mississippi schools from the SEC, Baylor and Iowa State from the Big 12, Illinois from the Big 10, move BC and VT back to the Big East and add Notre Dame, do away with conference championships and have everyone play everyone else in conference like the Pac 10 this year.

Way too much tradition in Oxford, and even Starkville is a lessor extent. If any team was going to be dropped, it would be Arkansas in favor of Ga. Tech. While ARK is a great team, they've only been in the SEC a little while.

Yep, plus ND plays A LOT of Big10 schools every year. With 4 non conference games ND can still schedule USC and the academy creampuffs all it wants.

ND not joining a conference for football has always been about cash. They can get the fat broadcast contract from NBC so why join a conf? Things change tho. The Big10 is blazing trails with its own network and NBC now has some pro football so they might spend less on fat ass ND contracts. Be interesting to see how it shakes out in the future.
