I love it when people preach about how annoying bikers are. Bikers have just as much of a right to be on any road in any lane they please. I am a biker and I exercise this to the fullest extent. If you don't like it, calm the hell down and realize it took you an extra 30 seconds to get where you needed to go. You waste more time than that scratching your balls on a daily basis, and the person who held you up was exercising, helping the environment, and not doing anything to hurt you. Fvcking idiots piss me off when you spout your crap about bikers.

I've been hit by a damn car TWICE when I was 2 feet away from the road in the bumpy part of the shoulder. FVCK THAT SHIT! I ride in the damn road now and haven't had a close call since. You dumbasses driving your cars can't avoid bikers unless we are literally in your way.

As I said, it is safer to ride in the middle of a fucking lane. Riding near the curb is extremely danger for two reasons: 1) People think that they can fly by you within inches and 2) Getting caught in the ridge between the road and the rain gutter can lead to an accident which can lead to you getting run over.

is "cagers" a known term for people who drive cars? or is that what it even means?

i've heard that 2 times now in bike threads today and had never heard of it before.

is it like the cool way to say "people in cars" for bikers?

Yes, it is. Very common, too. When I road across the state of Michigan on my bike, we would yell Carback up the line to warn the other bikers. Much easier to say than, "To the edge of the crappy 1.5 lane road, there is a car coming."

Four wheelers is what semi drivers call idiots in cars.

Surely we shouldn't break the law and pass on a solid double yellow because you can't keep up to a modest amount near the posted speed limit . If you can be ticketed for driving too slow in a car, why not when on a bike?

Yes.

Because the car has the ability to go faster. The bike doesn't. If you don't want to break the law, then don't. Just wait. The biker can be there if they want - get over it.

Of course!

I especially have respect for the people who bike in the cities every summer day. It's a waste of gas to drive a car 12 blocks, and it's good for your legs and body, too.

In the cities, I treat bikers like vehicles, it makes sense to me.

EDIT : I did not know it was ILLEGAL to bike on a sidewalk.

It's only legal when there's a sign that says it's ok to ride on the sidewalk (most of the time, it's due to road construction/repair). They take the sign off as soon as they're done with the road though.

That's exactly why we think you're a bunch of pricks. You have some cutey damn name you call people in cars...i.e. people actually trying to get somewhere and do something in a fricking timely manner. Like you think you have some innate awesomeness because you actually have the ability to ride a bicycle and the compulsion to do so. Props to you. I'm sure you were all decked out with your color-coordinated Pearl Izuma outfit and matching water bottle wondering where the media was to follow you on your wonderous bike ride across town.

I bike for fun. Have ridden as much as 700 miles in a week on my mountain bike. Rode 10 miles each way to school on my Specialized Stumpjumper for an entire year. And you know what, I stay off the damn roads. It's common courtesy. I see road bikers who could blow past you like you were standing still and, you know what, they're off on seldom used roads skirting the highways or bike trails. Instead, you WANT to be an annoyance so you can get honked at and yelled at and come cry about being a civil rights victim and have some superiority complex towards people who don't ride bikes. Maybe it's the attention..... look at me everybody....I'm riding a bike, just like your 6 year old can do except I'm on the ROAD and taking it extremely seriously.

Excellent.

Bikers shouldn't be riding in the middle of a lane. If you can keep up with the traffic speed at all times, fine, you can. But when you're doing 20 in a 35 zone, you need to get out of the way. What gives you the right to interfere with the flow of traffic? Just because those of us in cars are "idiots" and "cagers"? Because you're doing the environment a favor? Being in touch with nature?

I have zero problems with bikers. I have problems with people who expect you to be considerate while driving around them, but have absolutely no respect for you in return. It's the smug, shove-it-in-your-face attitude that irritates me - nothing more.

Feel better? It's not about having a superiority complex, but maybe with your inferior intelligence it appears that way. Getting something done in a timely manner? I bike to work every day of the week as a way to fit in both exercise and a means of transportation. It takes me 12 minutes to ride and 8 minutes to drive. Man those 4 minutes really screw up my daily schedule....oh wait, it takes me longer than that to take a sh!t.

I have no desire for other people to honk or yell at me, and I certainly want no attention for it. I ride my bike to get from A to B and save gas money in the process. I drove my car 214 miles last month and expect to not fill up the tank this month either. I will save over $1500 this year by riding instead of driving compared to last year. I will also help with pollution problems, keep my life insurance rates down for being in shape, and it keeps me lively and active on a daily basis. I'm sorry you are stupid and can't understand that, but maybe you should keep trying. Most people who are in a "hurry" really aren't. If you can bike/run/walk to work, you should. Efficiency is great, and its sad that you can't understand biking to work also takes care of your daily exercise.

I can understand that, and as a result, I try to be in the way as little as possible. If there is a safe way for me to move over, I do it every time. I have never spitefully held up traffic nor do I ever intend to.

edit: I should add that there is definitely a reason bikers expect to be treated someone unfairly (in their advantage) - if we make a mistake, we die. If you make a mistake, we die. All of the good things about biking are negated by the chance of being injured/killed by some idiot who isn't paying attention. It is really frustrating to be sideswiped and the person doesn't even stop to see if you are ok.

Before you get pissed at the next biker who "holds you up", maybe you should think about what it's like to be in his shoes and exercise some patience. The 5-10 seconds you have to wait or drive slower could save that guys life if he happens to fall off, hit a rock, etc. and you were going slow enough or far enough away to not run over him. If the biker is a prick, its probably because they have been harassed by morons in their cars. Most people try to be courteous but there is a limit because of safety.

Out of curiosity, does the fact that you ride everywhere actually raise your life insurance rate since your risk of death upon an accident is higher?

Grow up man. Bikers have every right to ride in the middle of the fucking road. If you want to be an asshole and speed around them, so be it. I just hope you hit a telephone pole. If you happen to brush the wrong person with your side mirror, you might end up dead.

QFT!!! Wow... you summed that up perfectly. I have no issues with bicycles. Heck, I'd ride one to work if I didn't have a 75 mile per day commute. And no, I can't move closer to work. I can't afford to pay $700,000 for a postage stamp sized house 5 minutes from my office. But oh how I would love to be able to live closer to work so I could bike it. We have an insane amount of bike riders around here, and almost all of them are courteous overall. There are definitely those occasional "pricks" as stated above that think they own the road and all the rest of humanity should bow to their superiority. Sorry, but I have just as much of a right to get where I'm going as you do. Lord knows I pay enough taxes for it!

99 times out of 100, the cager is at fault. I will kick your ass if you hit my me or my bike. At the very least, expect an insurance claim for my $1000 wheel set.

We don't have a bike lane on Congress. Further, there is a bike lane on Guadalupe, but it is only 3 blocks long! After that, there is no bike lane and I have to ride on the street. Sorry cagers.
The "bike lanes" in Austin are frequently full of parked cars anyway.

There ya go. I stopped riding my bike on the streets years ago. We have real traffic problems in Tucson: there simply aren't enough roads for the cars. The we get people riding bikes on the narrowest and most heavily traveled roads. We get people on bikes sitting at a light in the left turn lane. We get people riding two abreast. All very legal, but an idiotic challenge to drivers already pissed about how much time and money they are wasting sitting at red lights.

Most people try to be courteous but there is a limit because of safety.</end quote></div>

Best point so far in this thread.

I tend to get a little pissed off when people almost kill me. Boo Hoo, I called you a cager for your attempt at ending my life (intentional or not). Get over it.

Realizing, of course, that it was your choice to put your life in danger by choosing to ride a bike when the mass population rides in 2 ton masses of speeding steel.

"cager" :roll:

That's exactly why we think you're a bunch of pricks.</end quote></div>

Because the car has the ability to go faster. The bike doesn't. If you don't want to break the law, then don't. Just wait. The biker can be there if they want - get over it.</end quote></div>

I have zero problems with bikers. I have problems with people who expect you to be considerate while driving around them, but have absolutely no respect for you in return. It's the smug, shove-it-in-your-face attitude that irritates me - nothing more.

99 times out of 100, the cager is at fault. I will kick your ass if you hit my me or my bike. At the very least, expect an insurance claim for my $1000 wheel set.

thats kind of hard to believe, personally. but i guess its all a matter of perspective, and what you want to believe. while ive seen a bunch of accidents with bikes that were from the driver not looking, ive seen a ton of bikers going over the front of cars because they dont believe they have to actually stop at every red light, stop sign or crosswalk. make up your minds, are you vehicles with the same rights and restrictions or not? either play by ALL the rules or stop your bitching and take your chances. ive been stopped in my old car for going too slow and keeping traffic flow from advancing due to blowing a tire and trying to get it off the road, the cops whole point was that i was impeding traffic by going lower and not giving traffic a way to get around me. you are doing the same thing on a bicycle by going 20 in a 45 and riding close enough to traffic flow to be considered in traffic. i rode a bike for a long time when i was in better shape and didnt have kids to take places, and i always kept to the shoulder and out of the way. there were roads without bike lanes too, i either took different roads or walked on the side of the road if the lanes were too narrow for me to ride in the street and there was a good amount of traffic. stop being o damn condescending about how right you are and everyone else that doesnt agree sucks, is wrong and such. see both sides and agree that both need work. theres jackasses both on bikes and in cars.
