I just finished the meeting with my boss. He said it's tough right now for the company but since I take have taken on additional responsibilities and he wants to keep me long term he will be giving me a raise. He also said with the baby on the way and knowing how expensive it can be, he wanted to give me a raise to help out a little. I totally did not expect this.

Sign of a good boss in my opinion. Someone who understands your personal circumstances. I'm sure he didn't have a good time laying off the other folks either.
