:brokenheart:

I have cats, too. Can't imagine what it would be like to have to lose one.

This thread made me cry. I am so sorry for this poor kitty and for you guys who will mourn for her!!

We just had to let one of ours go a few weeks ago, and I am still not over it.

Will you have him cremated?

I couldn't put my pets through the kind of agony like chemo. I love them, but I just wouldn't feel right about it. Break my heart, but I'd probably just put them to sleep.

I had a kitty with feline lukemia and it was awful.

I'm sorry to hear it.
If you haven't done this before, think long and hard about being in the room when they put your cat to sleep.

When I had to put my last cat down it was the hardest thing to do. When they put him to sleep I was holding him and he just dropped off. I hope neither of our current cats has to be put to sleep anytime soon as I don't think I could stand to see it again anytime soon.

I haven't talked to the vet about that part yet, she's calling me back tomorrow with results from the leukemia test. Need to make sure it's not something that my other cat can get.

It is the best decision to put it down.

Our golden retriever had lung cancer a couple years back. It actually spread from his kidney area and totally flooded his system before we had noticed (dogs won't let on pain). One day he just started making a cough like sound. Had him checked and there were literally -hundreds- of tumors in his lungs. The vet couldn't believe it.

My parents had more than enough money to put him on dog chemo and treatment but really its not fair to the animal to let it suffer through all that crap (after the first tube went down his neck we took it out and had him put down). Its just not fair to an animal to keep them around so we will have more time to say goodbye.

I hate to say it, but when they go fast (when you just find out they have cancer) and have to put it down immediately its much easier on you, too. I can't imagine those people who drag it out--why? oh well

Sorry

Thanks for the advice. I'm determined to see him through to the end though, I won't leave his side.

I agree, I won't let him suffer. His last days will be happy ones.

As if the two are even remotely comparable...

Shrug, some people value animals more than a person. Dogs for example, are more loyal than any person will ever be. There is a reason they've long been called "Man's best friend".

Get over it.

In my mind they are. F off.

Well, I own pets and I've had to put a cat down. I also have a son of my own, so I feel that I am qualified to make this comparison and I can tell you that a pet doesn't come close to the value I place on my son.

Deal with it.

When we had to let our Robyn go... she was being stroked and kissed and loved by us. We had her cremated and she is here with us now. I puked non stop for three days, and cried myself raw. But she is home now, with us forever.

If you get the opportunity to bring her home, and can afford to do so, it is sooo worth it. We have 10 more, but losing even one is heartbreaking.

Will you get another cat to keep the other one you have company?

This is a pointless arguement. Everyone has different emotional attachments to people/pets. I personally, have felt more despair when an animal dies then human. All depends on your relationship with the given being.

We all value suffering and loss in different ways. I never implied that I viewed the loss of each as comparable, just that I view suffering from either man or animal to be horrible.

Yes, I do as well. I didn't mean to come off as unsympathetic but I just can't stand it when people make comparisons like this. There is no way you can understand the love you have for a child until you have one. Pets don't even register on the meter but my son pegs the meter every time.

Sorry for your loss though. It sucks to have to put a pet down...I fear that we might have to put my cat down soon. She's lost quite a bit of weight lately and she doesn't eat much. I'm not looking forward to it as we've had her since she was a kitten (12 years ago). Still, there is no comparison to that of a person in my mind. You'll never convince me otherwise.
