I'm sorry to hear that

While I'm a 'cat guy', all we've had out here on the farms were dogs. I was standing in the living room, watching "Buffie" - my first dog - when she got hit by a truck that decided to swerve off of the road and into our yard. I think I cried for a week... I was maybe 8 at the time. Since then I've lost two other dogs... "Joe", my uncle's dog, died a month after my uncle did, when I was 9. And then his replacement, "Laser", was killed a few weeks ago. My dad found him laying in a ditch, beside one of the farms. I drove past the farm to go to work at 6:30, and saw him running around in George's field... Dad found him at 6:45. I know how hard it is to lose an animal that's close to you...

Vet. Plus he's been losing a lot of weight and the blood tests don't show anything out of the ordinary. Found enlarged kidney and a growth on his liver in the ultrasound.

My vet said that small critters deteriorate very fast once they have terminal illness. She was referring to guinea pigs, etc. Dunno about cats/dogs.

You sound like a good pet 'owner,' so your cat was lucky to have you.

i took some video of my childhood dog before we put her to sleep. it's good to see her again in it, but she was having seizures randomly, so it's pretty tough to watch... gah, sad memories!



remember all the good times and love though, that will stay with you forever even when he's gone.

Brothers. Different litters but practically grew up together, adopted both almost at the same time.

I'll be honest, my eyes teared up. I HATE hearing about these things because animals have no idea what's happening and what death is. Sometimes I wish I didn't know because it's so hard to say goodbye to pets.

My condolences bro, just remember the good times and cherish 'em.

If your cat doesn't appear to be in any actual discomfort at all, there's no reason to kill him. Many animals can have tumors and such for years without it affecting their lives. However if the aniaml is obviously in pain, not moving right, etc... then you have a tough choice to make and I do not envy your position at all.

I got 3 cats....didn't get all of them at the same time and they ended up with me different circumstances. One was a stray, one survived a house fire and the owner was badly hurt and asked me to take the cat.

Its rough going through something like this, they really do become like part of the family. Just enjoy the time you got left with him and remember the good times.

He's lost a lot of weight in the last 2 weeks, so much to the point that I can actually feel all the bones. The vet says that even for a cat as big as him, the weight loss is too sudden to take lightly. He still eats and uses the litter box but he's having trouble walking and at times he's very unresponsive. His blood work actually came back close to normal so his organs are still functioning so the vet says it's probably the tumor that's throwing his metabolism out of wack (she says it's common to see cats with cancer and normal blood work, and the next minute they're gone). I'd rather end things while he's not in any pain. I can't bear to have him go through organ failure. I guess when it comes down to it, ignorance is bliss. The only thing my cat knows is that he's getting tuna for dinner and plenty of visitors giving lots of attention and belly rubs.
