Man, i love this thread, and that whatjeffkilled site is awesome

One of the outside cats brought home a live bird yesterday noon. If he'd have killed it, I'd have let him keep it, but as it was still living when he brought it inside, I took it away and released it.

Your cat is awesome. Sounds like my brother's cat (Dale - female, stray), except Dale has her front claws. They don't keep track of her kills (it's a shame), but I know she constantly gets birds and any small rodent she can find. Then again I see one kill she's gotten that your cat hasn't yet, although I'm sure your cat has Dale beat on sheer volume of kills. Dale caught and killed a snake. Now your cat needs to step it up to Dale's level and bring in a snake!

Hahah yeah not too many snakes up here in WI, but that would be awesome.

I am not sure exactly what happened, but Missy lost a bit of fur off her back near the base of her tail. It looks almost like she ran underneath a fence and scraped off some fur and a little skin off in the process. My guess is that she might have gotten into a yard that she shouldn't have and had to make a quick escape.

Since it will probably come up, let me remind everyone of the following:
1) Missy was declawed on the front by her previous owner.
2) We do not intentionally let her out and we consider her an indoor cat. Missy gets outside by dashing out whenever someone enters or leaves the house. We are sometimes able to successfully block her from escaping, but she is determined... She probably gets out about every other day.

Update:

She is fine.

your cat wouldn't last 5 seconds against the possum that lives in the gum tree outside my window.

Looks like 2006 total is going to be 95. Its winter now here in WI and she is no longer dashing outside like a crazed killer... instead she speading her spare time sleeping and eating.

The reason this cat is going on a killing frenzy is because the owner is showering the cat with praise every time it returns with a dead animal. The problem here lies with the owner, more so than the cat.

Big Gay Al? Is that you? You do realize it's in cats' nature to kill small animals right? Do you write to the Animal Planet and complain about all the Safari big cat programs they show too?

Domestic cats that are happy and well-fed are typically too lazy to be constantly bringing back fresh kills. In this case, the cat's his owner is showering him with praise and making a big fuss over every kill.. it is not surprising that the behavior is continuing. Classic Pavlovian conditioning.

Huh? It's a fvcking instinct.

My wife is allergic to cats. Had cats my entire life! When I left for the military, my cat of 13 yrs curled up on my bed and went to sleep, and didn't wake up.

BUT, when she was alive, she was the laziest thing. Every now and then she'd have to be in the next room like NOW, and take off. And the little milk jug pull-thingies would keep her entertained for days....

You really are clueless about cats. They are a top predator in just about any domain they are in. Killing machines they are.
