Your cat is awesome. Sounds like my brother's cat (Dale - female, stray), except Dale has her front claws. They don't keep track of her kills (it's a shame), but I know she constantly gets birds and any small rodent she can find. Then again I see one kill she's gotten that your cat hasn't yet, although I'm sure your cat has Dale beat on sheer volume of kills. Dale caught and killed a snake. Now your cat needs to step it up to Dale's level and bring in a snake!

The reason this cat is going on a killing frenzy is because the owner is showering the cat with praise every time it returns with a dead animal. The problem here lies with the owner, more so than the cat.
Big Gay Al? Is that you? You do realize it's in cats' nature to kill small animals right? Do you write to the Animal Planet and complain about all the Safari big cat programs they show too?
Domestic cats that are happy and well-fed are typically too lazy to be constantly bringing back fresh kills. In this case, the cat's his owner is showering him with praise and making a big fuss over every kill.. it is not surprising that the behavior is continuing. Classic Pavlovian conditioning.
