So I wanted to start this thread maybe to get some help and to help others . My general purpose desktop PC was infected by feline excreta and despite my attempt of rescue it was just too flaky. So I decided on a new build but at minimum it was going to cost me ~$400+. I had looked at refurbished at online stores and they seemed reasonable but I stumbled on larrys thread and and decided to check on Ebay and Craigslist. Almost bought a i5 7010 on ebay but my search notification on craigs list spit out a couple possibilities and they were local.

As I mentioned in my previous post I ended up getting a Dell Optiplex 7010 i5, win 10 and 500gig HD along with a 7600gt with dual DVI which I will use was thrown in, all for $150. I went over to the seller's house and he had a bunch of optiplexes around his dining room all in pieces and a couple assembled. We powered it on and brought it up to windows. It took a real long time to boot but I didn't think of it then. Anyway was nice to see it working and verify its specs before I purchased it. Something I couldn't do with Ebay.

Got it home and set it up and started using it. The Couple issues I ran into. the PC came from a corporate environment and apparently had some sort of network boot up so it would search for that while starting up and that's what took so long to boot up. So reading online of the message I was getting I found out I could turn that off in bios. Well after a long time trying to smash all sorts of F keys to try bring up the Bios on boot up I finally did a search and realized WIN 10 was different, LOL. Never used win 10 before, had not clue they changed BIOS access. Well then it wouldn't let me access the bios through the windows because win 10 was not registered? Anyway the Win 10 key was on a sticker on the case, I was hoping the seller was correct and it would work. It did and I got into bios and turned off network boot up or something like that and it's very quick now at booting up.

What I found interesting is there is not a power off switch on the power supply so once you plug it in it goes into standby? I was using a power strip to turn it off totally but one time it didn't come on. So sh*t I was thinking the PS might of went bad. Once again reading online I found out about dell's diagnostic LEDs on the PS, they indicated the PS should be OK. So again reading online I disconnected all the peripherals USB etc and tried it again, no luck. I had something to do came back about 20 minutes later and it turned on. I read online that this has happened to others. So for now I don't power off the strip. Anyone else have this happen with some advice?

I'm pleased with my purchase, the price was right, heck win 10 pro alone is $200. Win10 is new to me and i've been learning it's ins and outs which is kinda fun. The PC is perfect for the use it gets and it has an attractive case IMO If you're looking for a general purpose PC these coporate used PCs are being dumped on the market and there are deals to be made. Once again thanks to Larry and the people in the other thread for the suggestions.

It's the one on the right.

Well I'm glad Larry was able to help you. Doesn't sound like a bad purchase at all at $150.

That's a pretty good deal, these off-lease PCs can be great, fit the use of many users and save them a ton of money along the way. I love to see those machines having a second life.
Enjoy your new Windows 10 PC!

Huh. I think I noticed the lack of a power-off switch on the back of the PSU, but I didn't notice shutting it off with a power strip would keep it from booting immediately. Strange. Hope that your PSU is OK.

Did you get the SFF or the tower? If you got the tower, you might be able to replace the PSU with a standard ATX one, I think.

I it's not a full height tower but it's not SFF. It had a Wifi card installed but I took that out when was TS the power issue. Yea it looks like a regular PS would fit. I have a spare one I might try and replace it in the future but for now I just want to use it. Been using a laptop for general use, I don't like using the tiny screen and keyboard on the LT.

So, are you using the 500GB HDD, or did you do a sort of near-complete overhaul like I did, and install a new SSD, and maybe a PSU and a GPU? (Although, a 7600GT is perfectly adequate for most non-gaming things these days. I might drop in an RX550 or GT1030 though, just for the video-decode features.)

I do think that you got a decent deal.

Was yours noisy at all? My two refurb Dell were not especially noisy, but I don't really hear much fan noise.

No just the using 500GB HD for now. I have a 1Tb I will add eventually. I have two SSDs in my gaming rig but this HD is fast enough for my needs. No, its quit as a mouse.
