My Chemistry teacher is insane

Just got our mid-marking period grades today, and I have a fvcking D in Chem. Never had a D before on any report card or progress report. My Chem teacher showed me the grade sheet showing the grades of everyone in the class, and out of ~25 kids, there was not ONE A. Whatever happened to the damn Bell Curve?

I saw at least 10 D's, 10 C's, and the rest B's. Not high B's, low B's. We've got some smart kids in our class that maintain A's and B's in all their other classes. This is a regular, high school, Chemistry class. No Honors, no AP, just regular. There should be at least SOME A's in the class.

The problem is our teacher doesn't teach for sh!t. Her accent is very strong, and it's hard to understand her, or follow what she is saying when she is trying to explain something. On top of that, most of the stuff we do is on our own, and we get no explanation, so we all do very poorly.

I tried talking to her after class, and she basically said "too bad." I went to talk to my GC, and she basically said the same. I'm going to try to talk to my teacher again tomorrow, when everyone else in the class is gone, and hopefully I can convince her to let me get some extra credit in, or something.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I have A's and B's in all other classes, and I had a B in Honors Biology last year, and my last year's GPA was a 3.8.

Why are you in CP Chem if you were in Honors Bio last year?
Can't you skip Chem at your school and take AP Bio or AP Physics?

Get together other people in the class who feel the same way and go talk to the principal/vice-principal about it.

I decided to take a regular Chemistry class this year to ease up my course load. I'm already taking Honors American History, as well as two math classes.

I didn't want to take AP Bio, because, well, I felt it would be too challenging. I haven't taken Physics yet, I'm a Sophmore, and I'm supposed to take Physics next year.

dude when i was in college i had my entry level economics class. The teacher was on his last class for getting his masters in economics and i swear we got his tests. The entire class failed the first test, i think the highest grade was a 32%. Since then every student took every possible note they could and read the book inside out. I swear i had that book memorized and never got higher than a 60% percent on a test. At the end of the semester the highest grade was a D minus. Thankfully the Dean came to save us and everyone with a D- (like me) got A's and everyone else got the bell curve effect. I was never so stressed in my life to ear a D!

Agreed. Find out what the other students in other classes of that instructor are getting. If the grades are equivalent across all the classes then bring them all in on it. If no one will listen, call the local media and have all the students in her classes walk out in protest. Also tell your parents and have them (as well as all the students) contact the local board of education and/or superintendent.

You took Advanced Biology last year and are taking regular Chem. this year? You must be with a class full of juniors... slacker juniors... so don't worry about their grades
... try to switch into the Honors class, it's probably not much harder and you'll have a teacher you can understand/go after for help with..

I know I'm no star at Chemistry, but when no kids out of 25 get an A (or anything near an A) in a non-honors course, I think it starts showing it's not the students entire fault.

I take the blame for not working as hard as I could have, but still, it's ridiculous. Does anyone have any ideas as how I can relate to my teacher more?

Report her to the local authorities and tell 'em you have an Al-Qaeda operative working in your school.

No, I took Honors Bio (not AP) Freshman year, and now I'm taking regular Chem. There's two Juniors, and the rest are Sophmores.

I wouldn't expect any A's in non-honors classes.. the type of kids in those classes are slackers (you ) or have some form of IEP/lower IQ..
Try switching into Honors like I earlier mentioned

Don't worry about it, no one does well at Chemistry. That whole field of "science" is bogus. I put science in quotes, because Chemistry was discredited as an actual science in late 2003. It now joins the ranks of Alchemy and Chiropracticy.

It's not a slacker class. Honors is a verychallenging class. The regular class is just average students, and there are a handful (appx. 5) of kids who get A's in all their other classes. Trust me, it's not just the larks that don't want to work. Those people take Oceanography .
