edit: anyways, I say suck it up and study. If she's being unreasonable, and making mistakes that hurt you, then ask her to help you guys out. But if it's just a really hard class, then it's incredibly disrespectful for you to go over her head to an administrator. Talk to her first if you really think she's in the wrong. Anyways, you lose for not taking AP Physics and ending up in a really hard class anyway.

I come from an IB background and Honors classes are a joke compared to what we went through. Honors classes are nothing. If you have trouble in honors courses, don't ever try IB courses. You'll get slaughthered by the end of the first week, your behind will be bleeding profusely and your egos decimated.

I love the type that has to make the OP feel inferior by always have an experience that they went through in their life that makes your experience "nothing". They always have to one-up everybody. Grow up.

How am I making the OP feel inferior? Do my words hurt that much? Oh noes, call the whambulance!
Op is a big boy now, he/she can handle it. I mean if these words hurt you, you should thank your gods you didn't have any of my teachers. They were merciless in their coments
/sarcasm

I'm just saying he/she could be in a much worse position than what he/shes in now.
I mean good students don't just get bad grades. If you're given material to learn, you either learn it or you don't. Theres only so much a teacher can ask you from the material..

Suprisingly, if you have that mindset in university your ass will be grass. Im refering to this genius statement "Theres only so much a teacher can ask you from the material.." Ding ding, teachers put ****** that they never lecture on/ tell you about/ and they love to pull random ****** out of there ass. Sitdown you little pimple.

I'm not going to bother quoting because so many people have said the same thing.

How the fvck am I expected to learn something without my teacher teaching it, and the material not being covered in the book? Sure, I can go online, etc. but you can't compare learning from a teacher and teaching yourself. There IS a reason we go to school!

teachers arnt there to make sure you understand stuff. you learn it on your own then ask them questions. time to move out of your spoonfed bubble and do it yourself.

Wouldn't asking them questions be helping you understand stuff?

High School really should teach kids to be less spoon fed.

I didn't go to an American High school so I have no idea what you learn in Chem class during those years.
Give some examples?

Man, be glad you're not born in an asian country if you're bad at math and science.

Right now, we're talking about ethers, esters, alcohol, alkenes, alkanes, alkynes, etc. The actual material itself isn't that hard, it's just that we don't really learn it, and material on the test shows up that we never learned.

Just think of it as a warm up for college where none of the professors speak english.

<== Taking Honors Chem with a book they use at a local college, 94 average, teacher says all of us can take the AP Chem exam and pass, w00t. AP English, teach also says 75% of the class is AP exam material.
Sounds like the teacher is an asscrack, get at least 7 or 8 people and head to the principal's office.

wow, thats sounds exactly like my chem class except for different reasons
-Teacher is a moron as is a group of moron students who can get her to go off on a totally unrealted subject for over 30 mins
-Teacher cant keep the morons under control, she refuses to take any action against them (she threatens at best)

One day we spent 34 minutes of a 55 minute class period, keep in mind this is chemistry, talking about Herpes
Another day we spent 16 minutes disucssing wheater or not you can die from drinking too much water, that same day we spent 6 minutes debating wheater or not ecstasy actually kills you or if its just the things you do while under the influence
At least 10 minutes discussing the system for adopting Korean children
it goes on and on

Yeah, just go talk to administration with backup. The teacher gets into crap eventually. I wouldn't recommend doing this if the teacher is even half decent though.

wah wah wah... at my high school, there was no such thing as a curve. if everyone in the class failed, then everyone in the class failed. end of story. oh and we used the normal 7-point grading scale, not the pansy 10 point system.

Cry me a river, the curve in my AP Bio class was 75% and still only two students got A's (out of about 40). Don't even get me started on bad teachers...

Wow if you hate chemistry now, you'd better stay away from a science major when you go to college.

HS chemistry is NOTHING in comparison to College level chemistry, even beginning level. If you think the teachers will give you some slack for just talking to them, think again.

You'll be in a lecture hall with 400 students (if you're playing on going to a University) and good luck competing for your grade if your major requires a lot of chemistry.

I dont mean to sound rude or anything like that, But I'm just telling you from my experience and saving you some time in the future.

Good luck on your grade, learn it now, because you're going to need it if you plan on taking it later.

I'm just trying to show that I'm not a stupid kid.

maybe you're just stupid at chemistry?

I know I'm no star at Chemistry, but when no kids out of 25 get an A (or anything near an A) in a non-honors course, I think it starts showing it's not the students entire fault.

I take the blame for not working as hard as I could have, but still, it's ridiculous. Does anyone have any ideas as how I can relate to my teacher more?

I agree with you. Although I think grades are typically overinflated, it sounds like this teacher is at least partially at fault. Try to OBJECTIVELY (i.e, not emotionally) document your concerns and take them to the Principal. Try to get other mature students to do so as well.
