My Cholesterol is high :(

I went to visit my doctor this morning and he told me that my cholesterol is high

I guess it's time to stop eating ice cream and chocolates every single day.

I need to start a new diet.

I was one, but now I can't afford or find much tofu based stuff. It's at a premium. I tried
just eating veggies, but no matter what, I couldn't get enough calories. When I go offshore,
I'm going vegan again.

I lost 30lbs on the vegan diet.

Sorry to hear that because right now I'm eating the most delicious rack of beef back ribs in the entire universe.I spent half a day cooking them on the smoker.Wish you were here.

I would become a vegan, but I don't really like the diet very much. My sister is one for philosophical reasons, and so I know the diet very well. Some of the stuff is great (you can make some really good food items with tofu), but I would miss my beef.

vegetarian isnt that bad..just make sure when you go vegetarian that you dont miss out on the good stuff.

People who got vegetarian here in the US to lose weight are making a mistake.. you got to have a balaneced diet. You got to eat protein.

You dont have to be vegetarian to do bring down cholestreol.. For instance, eat fish - steamed or grilled fish - high in protiens and low in saturated fat. However you got to eat fish that is low in fat. Salmon, Mackarel, hudson, etc etc. Avoid shark, lobster, crab etc etc.

As for vegatarian, if you drink milk, go to the skim milk. If you drink Whole milk reduce intake. As for meals you can make several dishes and not just subsist on salads.

When cooking use virgin olive oil. Get a MISTO oil spray for about 10 bucks and use it to saute your food. And since you want to enjoy yourself as a vegetarian.. look towards far east or indian recepices for vegatarin dishes.

Like you can make a light sauted vegetable fry with onions, cauliflowre, eggplant, tomato's, string beans etc etc and add spices with it. Eat it with some tortias..

I mean I eat that kind of stuff.. and that is why I dont mind being a vegetarian. Eating salads dont work.. you got to eat stuff that is interesting to look and appitising to the stomach.

Also dont forget to excersise..

By the way the reason I know all this is because my dad has a cholestorl problem and my mom recently found she has it too (which she didnt earlier).. that is why I know about the virgin olive oil.

But make sure that you excerise.. make sure you break a sweat.. that means your working and not just execrsing..

Like for me if I run a few block I start sweating.. that means I am burning calories.

EXACTLY, the ratio is what is important, change the ratio by eating more fat, monounsaturated fats that is...

just eat less junkfood, or skip breakfast or lunch or something and exercise a little. That should cut out some cholesterol and maybe help you to lose weight

I have high cholesterol too, and I've heard that skipping breakfast is actually a bad idea. If you eat breakfast in the morning, you'll be less likey to eat snacks all day long. Snacks usually equal crap.

Well I just ate a Double Bacon Cheeseburger, complete with fry's and a shake.

This would actually be a good way to increase cholesterol and increase fat percentage, if you are going to skip one meal, skip dinner... But i do not recommend that...

Eat sensible, get your ratio right by ingesting essential fatty acids, the monounsaturated oleic and linoleic acids found in olive or safflower oil and flaxseed oil...

Actually, if you see the scientific side of the human metabolisme it is not that strange... most fats will not be stored anywhere, it will be used as ketones (fat fuel), now, the body is not very good at using ketones for as a fuel source, so it has to use more of it, and at the same time you are easing your body into using fat as fuel, which is what most people want...

Look at where we are today in America, we have more and more fat-free or low-fat products, yet the average population is getting fatter...

Any carbohydrate or protein that you eat that is not spent will be converted into the worst possible fat molecule, so using fat as an energy source makes more sense than using carbs, unless you are already very lean...

Low fat diets my butt...

Actually I just got a blood test, my HDL was average and my Total Cholesterol was somewhere in between the low and high range BUT my triglycerides level was near the top of the 'normal range'

Is there a way to calculate my LDL level from TOTAL and HDL?

I also got a Total Lipid level that was in the middle range too.

You should not worry too much then, to get the triglycerides down, eat essential liposomes, OD on vitamin C (BTW, vitamin C reduces iron uptake, so make sure to get the iron between the dosages) i am talking about 3-5grams, taken with meals (to avoid stomach upset) and get those essential fatty acids, everyone need the essential fatty acids, every one neads the essential amino acids, but there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate... after you correct your macronutrient intake, take a look at your micronutrients, vitamins and minerals, soon you will see that you do not get enough vit. c (no FDA recommendations are NOT nearly enough for some of them) magnesium and chromium, i do recommend NAC (there is NO FDA recommendations for this great immuno enhancer which reduces cortisol and therfore also the total amount of triglycerides, i will not get into the specifics here) NAC is short for N-Acetyl Cysteine, you know why chicken soup is so great when you got a cold? Chicken is very rich in Cysteine... So take your grandmothers advice, adjust it a bit and whooa, we have the great immuno enhancer that most people have never ever heard of, therefore most antioxidant or immuno-enhancer pills will not contain it, they are not out there to make you feel better, just to make more money by selling pills containing stuff that you know about.

Supplements or hundreds of oranges and bell peppers... your choice.. Actually, Vit. C supps are very cheap, you can usually get a 20 day supply (1G a day) for under 4$ and even if you are taking my recommended dose of 3-5G it will still be cheap... make sure you buy the soluable pills though.. Essential liposomes are found in different kinds of vegetable oils, especially flaxeed and olive oil, one table spoon of each twice a day is enough (just mix it into some food, do NOT HEAT the flaxseed oil though, it will ruin it)... Iron intake, 100mg pills taken with meals two to three times daily (not the same meals that you take the vit. C though) eat six smaller meals, soon enough you will learn that you have to prepare food inadvance or use total macronutrient supplements...
