I wonder why he pulled away? I mean, if someone just pumped a few thousand volts into me and a second later is grabbing me, I think I would be doing anything to get away as well.

Why? Because all of a sudden you went from suicidal to wanting to live because someone tased you? All this piece of garbage wanted was some attention, now he's got it, and he deserves to pay for inconveniencing everyone with his stupidity and selfishness. Everyone knows this.

I've been suicidal (obviously a failure tho), had plenty of friends that have attempted suicide (and have either been saved by others or thought better of it at the last minute), and some that have succeeded.

In my opinion, the laws need to be reversed, and if someone wants to commit suicide, fine. If you don't want them to stop traffic doing it, provide an easier route. If you don't care if they stop traffic by jumping off of an overpass, then do nothing. I doubt that the amount of time highways are open will be significantly impacted either way. I strongly feel that it's not the government's business whether someone wants to end their own life. Friends, family, whatever, they can interfere if they want to, but not the government.

Fine group of friends you have there.

Yes let the dude jump onto the highway below and kill one or more of your family members when he lands on their car.

I swear two-thirds of the people on this forum are more retarded than all the people in mental hospitals.

Do you realize just how statistically insignificant that event would be?!?

Do you realize that it doesn't matter. If you want to kill yourself go crawl into a fucking ditch out in the bushes and cut your throat. That way your rotting carcass wont smell up the place and bother people. Everyone knows this.

I think its pretty funny that he still ended up falling and even survived to turn around and sue.

I understand the point of view of 'fuck them, let them off themselves', however the problem being I doubt anyone but perhaps Drew has even come close. Most rarely actually want to end their lives but due to events it pushes them to that point. Those that truly do, tend to do it quickly and with little hesitation. Those are often the ones you find dead in a home. Yes, it is wrong of them to cause such a scene that it jams up everyone else's schedule. However between having them jump onto a busy street or sidewalk where lots of other people will also be effected, then I will always choose the option of try and stop them.

We need suicide clinics so people can stop making spectacles of themselves, stinking up places, and worst of all failing.

Internet Explorer has always been a superior browser. If the man had not been using FireFox perhaps he would'nt have been so suicidal, thus no lawsuit. If anything, he should sue the creators of Mozilla for a cup of McDonalds coffee and a Bunsen burner.

I am reminded of The Incredibles.

The lawsuit should have been thrown out. Stupid lawsuits still go on to this day.

good luck finding a Class Action attorney to take a case where the damages are equal to wasted gas. Those guys won't touch a case unless they can get a 6 figure recovery on attorneys' fees alone.

This clown just won $300K. I'd say that's a good pay out for a class action attorney. Just have to get all the participants to agree that they only want $0.01 from this guy, and the rest is attorney fees.....but they get the satisfaction of seeing a suicidal DICK get his come-uppance!!

I would of cleared the highway and then told him to jump or get down, we don't have all day.

Which of course is why I'm not the guy they pick for those things.

Back in 1998, a man threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the Wilson bridge just outside of Washington D.C. Turns out that once he got up on the bridge, he had second thoughts and decided to stand up there for 4 or 5 hours. Anyone familiar with DC traffic knows that the Wilson bridge is one of only 2 or 3 convenient ways to cross the Potomac near DC, and the traffic pile-ups were massive. The police tried to talk the guy down. But when that didn't work, they shot him with a beanbag gun, prompting him to jump off the bridge.

He lived, and I don't think he sued the city.

Aha! Found the story: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/wilson/wilson110598.htm

You all have too narrow a view of damages. Sure, lost gas would be one measure of damages. But a far more lucrative model would be based on the dollar value of the time and productivity lost by each motorist in the traffic jam. That model would equate to: hours * average hourly rate of individuals in the jam 8 number of individuals. Even if the hourly rate is capped at minimum wage, you are looking at a $1 million plus damages calculation if 138,000 people were affected for one hour (or 69,000 for two hours).

Let's see....because it could end up like someone here last month that succeeded and 4 people hit him which shut the highway down as they wiped him up? In a case like this it only makes sense to try and prevent it.

I live in RI too. That shit was crazy. I was heading south and came across it shortly after it happened. Traffic was backed up for miles and miles. I feel bad for the poor people who ended up running over him.
