I remember programming at school on an old 8088. Never even knew a 4004 existed?
Showing my age a bit here.

That's a pretty nice collection. All I have for old CPUs are Celeron 433 and Pentium MMX 233. I thought that was neat.

This thread got me excited enough to snap some pics
Both pics of the same thing, couldn't get a good angle for reading them.

I think this is fun. I might like to pick up a 386sx/33 (my first PC...had an Apple II clone for years, but my real interest in computers started with the 386), a Pentium 166 and Pentium II 350. I think I have my old Athlon XP laying around somewhere, though I'd have to dig around quite a bit to find it. I know I still have my Athlon 64 (still in my old case) and my Core 2 Duo is still sitting in its motherboard in my closet. So, I could pick up three chips and have all of the processors I regularly used.

I used to have a 486 DX/2 66 Overdrive chip, which I pulled all the CPU pins off of and soldered a steel ring to, and I used it as my keychain for about 5 years.

@Soulkeeper

That Intel/Via board is a *beast*...old skool ISA, 30-pin SIMMS, AT connector...no serial port for the mouse? Does it still work?

It looks like you'd need an 8-bit ISA serial card just to use a mouse.
I can't believe how far we've come in terms of component integration on motherboards and CPUs.
Supposedly, the southbridge will be integrated on Intel CPUs a generation or two away from now.

Checking second hand stores i bet will usually yield some pretty nice specimens.

I remember this cabinet at this second hand store in ventura,ca that always had the very old dimms from the 486 machines and always was some 90 cent 486 cpu that looked intact,i even bought one but that cabinet always had a very interesting collection of vintage stuff.

Looking at these makes me smile. It also reminds me that most of the younger members of this board likely never had the fun of constant jumper changes on motherboards and cards, or the endless fun of IRQ conflicts and the like.

I feel old. A 486 is now 'vintage.' I remember lusting after a 486dx2/66.

The first chip i lusted after was the core 2 duo,i worked the paper routes helping a couple friends fold papers at 2am till like 4am so their delivery was done before 6am for $20 and looking at the pc ads with core 2 duos as i folded,i envied a buddy who got a e6600 as i was on a pentium 4 still.

Eventually had enough money and got myself a e4500 and was blown away but traded up very quickly for a e6750 but those late nights were worth it.

All my CPUs I have work and are in computers.

286 10mhz
386 25mhz
486DX4 75 mhz
PII350 (laptop)
PIII 1.0GHZ
P4 willamette 1.8 ghz
P4 2.4ghz northwood (laptop)
P-D 840EE 3.2@3.8

Seriously. Is the 286 actually turned on?

I been buying cheap CPU's from ebay

My little collection

I love collecting chips. I have a couple of Pentium Pros and a couple of Motorola 68030s with the gold heat shields. Now I wish I'd held on to that 286-20 CPU I ran with for four years (it might have been a soldered version though).

I love Soulkeeper's collection.

Well i took a crappy cell phone pic of a section of my collection, just got an intel i486 sx-25 from one of my buddies too.

There is quite a bit more to the collection, in fact I even have some of it decorating the house.

From my Asus G51 a few years back I still have the p8600 Core 2 Duo and the 9800M GS MXM board. I plan on putting them in a photo frame of sorts for display. So yeah, I'll be starting up a collection sort of lol.

You should build or buy a coffee table with a glass top and space below to show off the collection.
