My Comcast bill is out of control. Can I do anything to lower it?

I canceled comcast Cable this week, I was tired paying so much money for very few channels I watched.

Any and every TV show I care to want to watch can either be streamed online or the seasons can be rented through Netflix(or streamed through netflix). Do you really need cable TV? Is it worth the cost? It isn't for me, so I've never paid for it. Everything will go on-demand eventually.

Not only that but over the air digital looks as good or much better then any thing cable has every had for me.

I have 1 antenna and lines running to each of my TVs. There are a lot more channels free over the air now.
I just can;t see the point in paying to watch something that also has commercials, usually not home to use it most of the time, and the low quality you get for what it cost.

The only reason I put up with Comcast's absurd prices is because I split the bill with a roommate, and we call and bitch when the prices go up. Usually we can get a promotional rate or something.

There's a start up in LA area, I qualified for a trial... Haven't gone for it yet, still thinking about it, I get basic cable with apt, and use a HTPC as a DVR.

I would love to drop to their lowest tier of TV service and just keep the internet. For the money I saved I could just buy the DVD sets of the TV shows I wanted. Unfortunately my wife likes the channels that cost the most so we keep those.

But to your question, I got someone on the phone the other day who offered to lower my payments for 6 months. Dropped it down by about $30/mo.

You call the regular number but going thru the menu, there's an option to get connected to their Cancellation Customer Care Group (or something named like that).

I'll stop being a dick and actually help I guess....

Call up Comcast and choose the option for cancelling/downgrading service. Tell them that you are rate shopping and want to know if they can work with you. Don't demand...don't play high and mighty....just ask what they can do for you.

Dude, I have the exact same plan as you and I pay less than $90 a month. All I did was call about a promotion. The one I called about wasn't available in my area but they offered me this and I took it. Free HBO for a year too. Just call and ask about promotions first.

Hopped online and chatted with a live representative. Told her that I could get the same television package from DirectTV for significantly cheaper.

Lo and behold, they have a nice 12 month promotional package for me. Dropped my bill from $160/mo to $109/mo. Nice payoff from about 5 minutes of work.

Standard cable GETS YOU QAM channels. I get HD. I get my football games in HD. good enough. $44.95 all the way. have fun paying for your "comcast box"
