DocSmarts: Take a breather. RMA stands for Return Merchanside Authorization (I believe) it is for people who recieve defective products or for people whos products break down within a given warranty period. It does not cover human error. Obviously you made a mistake of pouring water on your running computer. Therefore AMD is not responsible.

As for your argument about thermal control.. That's BS. While AMD cpus run hotter any CPU will burn up when you are stupid enough to POUR WATER ON IT. This is your fault and whether you had AMD or Intel you would have destroyed your CPU + mobo. I mean come on. You made the mistake, don't try to make companies like AMD pay for it. Look, I burned up a CPU + mobo doing stupid shiznat too but, I took it like a man, went out, bought new stuff and quite whinning. You need to take responsibility for your incompetance and not look to hold others accountable.

You may call everyone here AMD zelots, but this would have happened with ANY CPU, not only AMD.

In conclusion: Stop b*tching, suck it up, buy a new system (AMD/intel, doesn't matter), and realize you made the mistake, not AMD.

[edit] bump for the funniest shiznat i've read in a while....

HAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH.... HA!!

OMG it hurts. Jeez, THis thread is classic [/edit]

There are fast approaching 85,000 AnandTech forum members.....
So far a few hundred have commented.....

If 75% of all the people who use AMD here comment on this thread (yes, the AMD zealots), this will probably set a new Fusetalk record.

"PLEASE LET THIS DIE!!!!!!!!"

Barring my own personal opinion, there is no chance this thread is dying for a while yet.
Just think, there are a few more timezones who will be waking up to this....

Well, this definitely receives my nomination for AT?s Funnies Forum Discussion of 2002!

This will no doubt end up being the funnies thread on AT, but I predict it will also receive the ?Fastest Growing? and ?Longest? Forum award. Send in your nominations!

<< MoleX,

As many AT'ers mentioned in this thread, overclocking does void any warranty you may have.

<< My reasoning for building with Intel is because they have better heat protection on their products. >>

If you knew how to build/work with a computer, you wouldn't need to take the heat protection factor into account.

Might I suggest that you try to find a nice Cyrix based system for your future overclocking experiments. Surely, no where near as many "Cyrix Zealots" exist, nor will they put you down if you ignite that bad boy.

FWIW, I've heard that modifying your power cord to fit in the 240V outlet behind your dad's clothes dryer and using pure RONSONOL LIGHTER FUEL in your water cooler helps things along...

<< You know how much of AMD's market consists of overclockers? Maybe 1% or so? It's a pretty insignificant market for them to invesnt extensive research in. >>

100% bullshit. Try 75+%. Practically everybody that uses these forums are OCers. Think about it for a sec, how the hell can it ONLY be 1% if 95% of the people here are OCers, and 60% use AMD. That 60% is probably 80% of AMD's total revenue.

Think before you type.

I'm pretty sure that not all of AMD's customers consist of computer enthusiasts that post at computer websites.

First I would like to start by letting you know that the last processor I bought was an Intel. Second I wish we would all start buying our processors based on price, performance, and features and not brand name. You showed your norrow mindedness and ignorance by not taking proper precautions before working on the computer and again when you posted this thread. In both cases you knew the consequences and refuse to accept them. You are ignorant and arrogant and got what you deservered I hope you enjoy your Dell.

DocSmarts dad: "What happen?'
Docsmart: "Somebody set us up CPU fire"

DocSmarts dad: "We get refund"
DocSmart: "What !"

DocSmarts dad: "RMA turn on."
Docsmart: "It's you!!"

AMD : "How are you gentlemen !!"
AMD : "All your pitcher of water are belong to us."
AMD: "You are on the way to Intel."

DocSmarts: "What you say !!"
AMD: "You have no chance for refund make your time"

AMD: "Ha Ha Ha Ha ...."

LMAO!

This is the funniest thing I've ready in a long time! Thank you DocSmarts for some great laughs.

As one of the poster put it: "It wasn't like it was your nuts"

May I suggest using that part of your anatomy next time as the heat sink! I recommend a BIG 120MM high speed fan to make the combo complete!

LMAO!

Exactly. For example, 90%+ of the workstations the company I work for owns are AMD based. Of course every server we own has an Intel chip in it, but that's a different story. I also know that all of those AMD workstations are NOT overclocked since my job is to support them all.

Why in the heck would a company buy AMD based machines? Because for the performance in what we use them for it's hard to beat the overal price. Plus if you have someone who knows what their doing you can build stable, fast machines on the cheap and save some $$$ in the process.

And I wouldn't call myself an AMD Zealot either. Here at home 3 out of the 4 machines I have are Intel based. Although my main rig does have an Athlon XP in it. Only cause I won it during the first AMD XPP tour in Chicago.

I have to add this to the thread too:

AMD (and the motherboard manufacturers) specifically state that all AMD CPUs should be run with an HSF. So, if you run your Athlon with an HSF, and the Athlon fails, AMD is liable under warranty...or you can RMA the dead CPU. If you're dumb enough to turn on your computer (accidentally or intentionally) without an HSF on it, AMD is NOT liable, and you are an idiot. Congratualtions, you ****ed up a perfectly good CPU and mobo out of complete stupidity. Also, if you didn't know any of this prior to working on the computer then it never hurts to RTFM.

Well, I accidently took the Heat Sink off my 8088 while playing Pole Position. My big toe hit it and it dropped off. Flames came out of th e 5150 IBM MotherBoard so I poured 1/5 of Scotch on it. The end result was it got drunk and hicuped through my AdLib card!

It's all Intel's fault. That 8088 should have taken it booze and all and not hicuped! I want my money back. I think I will RMA it after 20 years. They owe me a new CPU!!!! Dang Intel. I don't care if I poured booze all over it and knocked off it's Heat Sink and it's over 20 years old. They OWE me an RMA!!!

Sorry, had to do it.

1) Trying to RMA or get a refund on one's own mistakes...

2) Laying blame on a cpu manufacturer...

3) Trying to take advantage of the system...

...is suck

Please don't ban the original poster, he tried to defend his position for 300 posts.( I exagerate ). Sure he is neffing and trolling, but he has a certain style. He also has a dogged idioligy about Intel. However misguided he may be he has a certain penasche (mispelled, right?). It makes for good debating among members. Remember debates? Don't feed him to the lions yet, at least until we have our turn!!!!!

If Doc is still miraculously reading this:

1: I have owned three Intels and one AMD. I currently sell AMD for Workstations because I am happier with
the performance of it. I will only use Intel for servers, however, due to their stability and low operating temp.

2: Having said that, I have never OC'd a processor, nor have any I've sold been OC'd.

3: I am A+ Certified, but after reading what you did (C'mon... I checked the A+ for Dummies books I have, and
the one that states to leave it plugged in was written BEFORE ATX.) I have removed it from my business cards.

4: For safety sake, however, if thou cannot remove the power cord, thou shalt remove the power button, ne?

5: My viewpoint upon the entire human race has dropped another point, and is nearing the level of obliteration.
Don't make me call Pinky and have him fill his rubber pants with Plutonium.

6: Trolls suck

7: OT: Soyo P4S Dragon. Add on extras later.

8: Topic is same as the topic of the thread. Anything else is OT.

9: Go read the exact process of creating de-ionized water. Copy and paste back here with link so we know you
have read and understood it.

10: YOU mis-typed your system rig. YOU posted it. YOU shal not get snippity with those who correct you.

11: AMD manufactured a great number of processors for the early IBM's... I would not be surprised to find an
AMD in your PS1/50. Most of the extra chips are probably AMD as well. (Network, controllers, etc.)

12: Pong rules. If you play Pong, how are you so inept at accepting that you're wrong?

13: 13 is not an unlucky number. It has taken me 13 sessions at the computer to read this whole thread.
