Yes, and will not conduct electricity until it is contaminated. Want to bet whether your mobo/CPU were prefectly clean of dust/dirt? If they werent, then the water being de-ionized doesnt matter, as it would no longer be de-ionized.

<< man i agree with most of the ppl here... blaming everything that was ur fault on amd is wasting everyones time... i say forget watercooling... i dont like the idea of water in my rig.... go fig... >>

I did not place 100% of the blame on AMD. It was partially AMD's fault for not having an Auto-off feature which could have prevented this.

Isin't it compulsory to pull off the plug or turn off the main switch each time you do something to your rig???

Dude, go sleep. You need it.

<< And how many computers have you built? Leaving a system plugged in and on while installing components? Who taught you that? ATX has power on the mobo all the time. Necessary evil for Wake-on events and turning on all of your power supply when you want the system on. Not a good thing when your putting components in.

I am sorry for you bad experience with watercooling, but the stuff you did is in the realm of a nightmare for me. Maybe I am paranoid with my watercooler, but open liquid containers are not allowed near my computer with it plugged in ever. I figured that was common sense, but as we can see common sense isn't very common. An acquaintance of mine, who I just had ordered a brand new 19" monitor, set a soda next to his monitor on his tower. As always happens, one thing leads to another and a week-old monitor is to never function again. (At least he accepted responsibility and didn't try to send it back.)

Why thank you for your kind post. It has helped me out a lot in my future problems. At least some people here have courtesy.

<<<MAN THIS SUCKS!

I was masturbating to some granny pr0n while building my computer and eating Cheetos. While I was wanking, I spooged. I looked at my penis, and noticed it was orange from the Cheetos, so I tried to wipe it off. While doing so, I knocked a randomly placed gallon of water all over my rig, which I foolishly placed open to hold my granny pr0n mag. DAMN! When my computer exploded, it killed my fern. Then I stomped out the fire, and accidentally stomped on my Palm V. I am blaming AMD for this. Those bastards! I'm going to over-spend on an Intel processor based setup, which would die EXACTLY the same way due to MY STUPIDITY, but I heard Intel likes to watch.

Idiot. DocSmarts, it is ENTIRELY your fault that the rig broke. Chalk this up to experience, stop trying to defend yourself, and don't say something stupid like "I'm not using an AMD rig ever again because of this" when it isn't AMD or your mobo's manufacturer-it's you!>>>

Just i case ya'll didn't catch it the first time...soon to make the rounds in OT...

Since you're so anal about having the facts correct, that's basic chemistry. Distilled water doesn't conduct electricity because of the lack of salts in the water.
I wouldn't have pointed that out if you were somebody else, but you're such an ass.

EDIT: small edit to clear things up.
>>

I can't believe I am replying to your ignorance twice.

If you are so good a chemistry then you shoudl know that when you place a salt molecule in water, it separates into two ions. For example: NaCl will separate to Na+ and Cl-, thus creating ions. These ions are what caries the charge. When you DE-IONIZE the water, you remove these ions, Thus what I said is 100% true, and your ignorance has stained it.
>>

That still doesn't change the fact that it's chemistry and not physics like you claimed it to be.
And ionization of water doesn't change the fact that it's the salts in water that make it electrically conductive. Ionization is just a phase from salts dissolving in pure H20.

And good three minute reply, looks like you took me up on my offer and actually looked it up. Good fer you!

Physics has basis in chemisty. There is something called molecular physics. Have you heard about it? no.

To the latter: I think you are missing the point. What I said is the same thing as you said, but I cover the whole spectrum of salts. When salts ionize they separate into two electrically charged particles called IONS. When water is de-ionized, it removes the electrically charged particles through a process called osmosis.

You probably haven't taken, if not failed science.

You know, the ONLY reason I looked at this thread was because it had OVER 100 posts in it, so of course I had to check it out.

Well after reading ALL the posts in this thread I can now give you my theory on the author:

1. He's 9 or 10yrs old.

2. He's retarded, but calling him retarded would be an insult to retarded people as I'm SURE they know MUCH more about computers than he does! I mean come on dude, you don't know to unplug your PC when you're going to do major work on it (water cooling is a GREAT example of this).

I'm leaning VERY much toward theory number 2.

Well, yes, that does actually make sense. Chemistry is based on molecular and atomic physics. (And subatomic and quantum physics if you want to get REALLY deep into it.)

First step when you do ANYTHING at all inside your system is to unplug it. Always, always, always.

That being said, even if there was an 'auto-off' feature, you should keep any kind of liquid as far away from your computer as possible

Don't try to return it for a refund. And if you do, tell the techs what really happened, so they'll have something to laugh at for the next week.

You overclocked. That voids warranty right there. (for both motherboard and CPU)

'nuff said.

BTW, AMD is only responsible for ensuring the quality of their CPUs to run properly at the rated clock.

Ok, I'll give you that, chemistry might have it's origins based on the atom, but molecular physics is more of a theoretical physics.
