I can't believe I read this whole post.
well, off to bed to dream about the car i'm gonna overheat w/no coolant, and then blame AMD for it, 'cause my Athlon/8KHA+ allowed me to read this post!

<< If you are going Intel you might want to consider a Rambus based system.

Okay the take home lessons from your experience is:
1. Do not run your system without a heatsink\fan properly install and functional?
2. Unplug your system when you are working on it?
3. Use Intel because of its thermal protection?
>>

The most important question is, are Intel procs and mobo's waterproof to at least 100 feet?

Congratulations gentlemen, you have just wasted 220+ posts of your time ranting at an 8 year old who is sitting behind his computer at home, giggling to himself at how marvelously he has enraged all of you, and probably wetting himself slightly in the process. "DocSmarts" (what his mom probably calls him when he's scampering around in his Bugs Bunny jammies) is probably not even allowed to play with daddy's expensive computer stuff except for a quick round of Barbie Super Detective or Learning-Fun With Barney. Time for bed, Doc...fun's over.

<< Doc: Hmm, you're ass whooping in CPU/Processors and Overclocking wasn't enough for you eh?

I find your story unbelievable, this is the lamest attempt at trolling ever.
>>

I just came across this thread, I can't believe that such a funny story can be true.
"Accidentally" kicking the power button, and then starting a fire from a HSF-free cpu? and then putting it out with a pitcher of water that just happened to be at hand? and now expecting to RMA it all?

No guys, there's only 3 possibilities here:
1. Its a work of fiction merely to entertain the author of this post and the readers of AnandTech
2. It really happened, but the facts are distorted. It was an act of arson, he deliberately killed the cpu
and board to convince his daddy to buy an Intel P4 due to its better thermal protection. Maybe
poured some rubbing alcohol on the cpu before powering it up.
3. The moron theory -- but I bet he left out something really stupid. I'd still believe he was using some
alcohol or something highly flammable, I have yet to hear anyone else tell how their mobo caught
fire just becuz the cpu was smoked.

Good morning. (ALbeit a very comical one for me)

Doc Smarts. I have things to say. SHut up for a moment. Listen.

First of all I would like to invalidate this statement by one Mr. Doc Smarts

<< Wrong on what charge?! Your post holds no integrity. >>

YOurs don't either. Whos to say YOu have integrity. Someone of integrity would not have responded with a shameful display of ignorance. THis board is meant for helping out others, and by commiting an error, and not verifying it so others will not follow(this is a funny exception) is not very USeful on a such a board.

Someone great once said something along the lines of

<< To be wise is to know that you know nothing. >>

From what I have read my friend, you are not wise, nor do you deserve credit for those shameless displays that you call posts. Those posts insulting the intelligence of everyone hear concerning chemistry and phycis are downright low.

I bet I could find thousands of smart individuals on these forums smarter than you. why? because i know I could easily find thousands of individuals smarter than myself and vice versa. Not to discredit myself, but in life, that's the way it is.

DOn't even bother responding with your incompetant boobery and what you try to pass off as creditable rhetoric.
Oh and if you are attacking any of my typos, up yours baby!!

I may be a whiz at computers, but my hands were designed for a "long , hard, buldging(don't get horny on me now)" BIC PEN

You know something really intersting I have realized if that I have encountered many individuals like you on the net. Unfortunately they have been apple folk(dum luck..allot of good people own macs), and have left me sour towards some really great machines. I bet a lot of people would agree with me on that.

What really gets on my nerves is that you never DIRECTLY CONFRONT ATTACKs. You basically find as many miniscule flaws as possible in statements and play of them with the pointless jargo n that you post. Seriously, if you can't stand the comedy in your fisrt post, never do that again. It like this everywhere. People put their butts on the line for attention and then can't staznd the ridicule.

Sincerely, If you had stated your mistake and admitted that you failed on this task , I would retain what little anonyous respect I might have had for you. Ihave done stupid things in the past, and fessed up to it. people still repect me BECAUSE THEY KNOW I ACTUALLY LEARNED A DAMN THING FRO MTHE EXPERIENCE.

So you know, I once fried a mobo because i put the ram in backwards. WHy? Because i am lazy, and tried to do it blindly while all my stuff was still plugged in. (power was disconented. Just drives and stuff where connected but all my cables obstructed any chance of seeing the ram slots) It was an idiodic mistake with all the blame on MY shoulders. I was a lasy bastard then, and I got my just deserts. That was the only time I have ever commited something so stupid relating to computers because I usually never let my guard down..i.e..I always pay attention. I wasn't taking a 300watt device seriously for once and I paid for it. I will do my best to asure that it never happens again.

What do my respect or criticisms towards you really mean in the end? Nothing really...

What substance do your reponses have now that you still haven't admitted that it obviously was completely your fault?

same answer...

EDIT: DAMN TYPOS

Jeez! you guys need to STFU. You've been doing nothing but bashing this guy. I nearly cried my heart out when I Killed my 64MB GTS that I spent nearly 350$ on at the time by messing around with the HS/F. Then someone else blamed it on me. I didn't appreciate that. Yes, I think he knows it wasn't such a smart thing to do. But no one deserves to be called stupid. Even if he isn't the smartest person on earth, he needs to learn and move on. And you guys aren't helping at all! You're doing nothing but firing off post after post of depressingly venemous sarcasm and attacks. And you guys are lame. Just plane lame. Don't you people remember when you didn't know nuff about a computer to recognize the difference between the CPU and the RAM? Back when you had DIPPs.

As for the motherboard sugestions,

Why the hell are you installing a water block? Sounds to me you don't have enough experience to build a standard PC, try unplugging first.

Sorry

It just pisses me off that he acts like he nows everything and is bashing everyones credibility without hinking about why they are attacking his.

FishTankX,

I'm sorry to hear that people gave you a hard time when you killed your video card. However, there is one major difference between you and Doc Smarts:

He made the story up. It is flamebait. He was trolling. In other words, it never happened.

I find it funny that the person who started this thread is swearing off an entire company because he failed to properly install the necessary hardware. Don't plug in the power before you are finished. That just isn't smart. You shouldn't have the power plugged in while you are attaching/detaching things. That can damage components in and of itself.

This is BS. You blame AMD for your error(s).

Maybe you should stick to aircooling, because if you're not smart enough to unplug your systems before putting in watercooling, then you shouldn't do it.
You run pretty much any CPU without cooling on it, even for a few seconds, it's going to blow up in your face for sure...It makes no difference whether it's AMD or Intel.

Don't blame AMD for your mistake of making it catch on fire, if you didn't mess up the CPU would have never caught on fire.......

Actually, I think the P4 would be able to live. It would just throttle the clockspeed down. None the less, it is not AMD's fault he can't install his cooling setup properly.

<< MAN THIS SUCKS!

I was masturbating to some granny pr0n while building my computer and eating Cheetos. While I was wanking, I spooged. I looked at my penis, and noticed it was orange from the Cheetos, so I tried to wipe it off. While doing so, I knocked a randomly placed gallon of water all over my rig, which I foolishly placed open to hold my granny pr0n mag. DAMN! When my computer exploded, it killed my fern. Then I stomped out the fire, and accidentally stomped on my Palm V. I am blaming AMD for this. Those bastards! I'm going to over-spend on an Intel processor based setup, which would die EXACTLY the same way due to MY STUPIDITY, but I heard Intel likes to watch.

Idiot. DocSmarts, it is ENTIRELY your fault that the rig broke. Chalk this up to experience, stop trying to defend yourself, and don't say something stupid like "I'm not using an AMD rig ever again because of this" when it isn't AMD or your mobo's manufacturer-it's you!
>>

Thanks, dood, this post made me actually laugh out loud. I really needed that today.

Of course, DocSmarts is just posting for the attention and abuse, which he/she enjoys.

That's kewl, I suppose.

CONSIDER THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH ANANDTECH'S QUERIES!!! When it said to imput motherboard Manufacturer it is GENERIC. Anandtech linked it to the chipset. <-- not my fault.

Thank you for alerting me on my extreme typographical error of "Quantum" when I misspelled those 7 letters as: "Seagate".[/i] >>

Doc, you're killing me! I can't take my eyes from the carnage. My sides are sore.

Another wreck on the road and I just cannot look away!

...situational ethics, Clintonian doublspeak, thank goodness there is always someone (or something) else to blame, huh?

Screech!! Oh, no, another statement by the Wunderkind. Crash!!

"No officer, I was just standing here and he blew right past all the warning lights and signs, he just would not be stopped!

....and I just could NOT look away. ....again"
