My computer is backwards!! INSTALL = UNINSTALL

I am using Windows 2000 and am having problems with installing my Kodak camera software. My camera is an old one and it didn't ship with Windows 2000 compatible software, but Kodak has a "patch" to fix it. First let me say that I have tried the software and "patch" in another computer with Windows 2000 and it works fine, no problems at all, it installs quick and easy.

But in my computer I can install the camera software no problem, but when I try to install the "patch", the install shield comes up like normal, like it is going to install, but then I get a warning "are you sure you want to UNINSTALL the camera software ---- yes or no!?!?!? If you click no, it says:

"unable to perform uninstall of (DefaultUninstall) section .inf file"

and then exits the install, if you click yes, the UNINSTALL shield comes up and DOES uninstall the camera software!!! I have been on the phone with Kodak for HOURS and they can't come up with a solution either.

After trying everything that I knew, and everything that Kodak knew to try, and since the software works fine on another computer, I figured it must be a problem with Windows, so I reinstalled the OS. That didn't change anything.

Needless to say...........HELP!!!!!

Can you be more specific about the camera model and software you are trying to install?

Thanks for the reply!! The camera model is a Kodak DC280. The camera software that came with the camera installs and works fine, but you can not connect the camera to the computer using USB. The "patch" fixes the USB connection problem, (or it did in my other computer). In this computer, it causes the camera software to uninstall.

The patch is on Kodak's web site: Here

About half way down the page you will see the Windows 2000 USB driver update it is called, dd0772.exe

THANKS!!

The patch EXE seems to use a WinZip self-extractor. Could you try changing the location where the patch setup files are extracted to? You may be prompted for this location, but if not, try opening the EXE with WinZip and manually extracting the files. It's possible that the default location is a TEMP directory that contains other setup files.

Thanks again for your reply. I did try that, with no luck. I also tried it using a couple different extractors other than WinZip (like WinRAR). I would extract the files to a new folder, then execute the file from there, same results. I also tried creating the folders in different locations, no difference.

I have also tried cleaning all TEMP, and unnecessary files, running all the spyware cleaners, shutting off the firewall, etc, etc. No difference.

THANKS!!!

I would try this.

1. Uninstall any and all Kodak Camera software.
2. Disconnect the camera from the USB port.
3. Reboot
4. Install the Windows 2000 USB driver.
5. Connect the camera.

See if that helps at all.

Well I tried that and got the same results. I deleated the software in "add remove programs", and then removed the folders it was in, then did a file search for kodak and dc280 and deleated all of those. Then went into the registryand did the same search's and found a BUNCH of related files and deleated them.

After all that, I reinstalled the software, no problem, then the patch ...... same results.

Any idea where I can go from here???

THANKS!!!

Is the "patch" the driver? Did you try installing the patch prior to installing the software?

Thanks for the reply. I assumed the patch was the driver, but I'm not sure??? I did try installing the patch first and it doesn't try and uninstall the camera software (obviously, since it is not there), but I still get the error message:

"unable to perform uninstall of (DefaultUninstall) section .inf file"

and then it exits the install shield.
