My computer is gaining time...

Is there something wrong with it? I just was looking at the time on my pc and it said 1:39 when it was actually 1:22. It has done this before but I wasn't really sure why. Any ideas for why it is gaining time like that?
EDIT: Any reasonable ideas? Or is my computer just time travelling?

It is possible, what with all the electrons and capacitors and electro magno hoozitz that your computer is actually stepping forward in time somehow... This could suit you well for the lottery, as long as you live pretty close to a place where you can buy the tickets.

Win Xp automatically adjusts the time from a timeserver. The clocks in your house are probably behind which makes the computer seem fast.

No last night when I went to sleep the clock was 17 minutes ahead so I had windows sync with the atomic clock server. Then when I woke up this morning it was 10 minutes ahead and I had to sync with the server again.

It does that once every 24 hours or something... The clock can and will Mess up if the CMos battery is low no matter if Windows manages the time or not and I know there is a very long thread over at the NforcersHQ forum about some A7N8X's screwig up times, Mine doesn't but it DOES happen to others.

my pc also gains time(it's a soyo motherboard). every pc i've had tends to be about 5 minutes faster than the clocks in my house. like you, i can set the pc time equal to a clock and within 24 hours, the pc will be about 5 minutes faster than the clock. for me, just a little annoying.

I vote for a low CMOS battery.

It's a very cheap solution to try.

You can also look in your BIOS or other monitoring program and see what your battery voltage is. VBAT?

You can automatically set your computer to snyc the time with a server of your choice. I have mine doing it with the offical US time servers. Windows should go out once every few hours and rectifiy the time if it's starting to get off. It might not solve your problem completely, but it should keep you closer to the correct time.

If you want to do it, go to the command prompt and type in:

net time /setsntp:ntp2.usno.navy.mil

That should keep you synced better.

Atlantean just doesn't seem to be interested in using his computer for gain.

I had the same problem with my nf7-s and my a7n8x.
It will gradually work it's way up to 10 minutes ahead, but it doesn't seem to get worse than that.
It isn't windows syncing the time because it doesn't instantly get 10 minutes ahead, I'll notice it starts
at a couple minutes ahead then works its way up.

It's probably a low battery but I'm lazy.

I've also had this problem, also an NForce2 mobo(MSI k7n2-l). A BIOS update fixed it, check for one. I think it's some kind of timing issue with the NForce2 chipset.

My PC clock went 3x faster once.. meaning for every one second in time, three seconds passed on my computer's clock. What was cool about it is when I played a song, it would play it 3x faster than real time! It changed back to normal though after I rebooted.
