i was having a problem or two with it earlier, but now it wont even turn on!! i was in the middle of typing a reply to someones PM i got earlier, and the computer just turned off all by itself and will not turn back on. i tried unplugging it for a while, reseting the bios, etc. one time it made a little try to turn on ut then turned off again. i think i may have fried the chipset becaues i put a blue orb on it, but it always makes this annoying noise. well, i unplugged it for a minute to see what it sounded like when the blue orb wasnt on, but my mom called me to another room and i forgot to plug it back in. so maybe it just took a few minutes to badly overheat and fried?

i had been having slowness problems before this...such as it taking forever to boot past the verifying dmi pool data stage. ive tried everything i know how to do and i really cant get it to work. im on a piece of crap computer right now sitting in my room, so its not like this is a catastrophe, but man i need to be able to play games once in a while. any ideas anyone? thanks in advance

Try to eliminate items. Remove and disconnect the HD's, and all add in cards except the video card. Remove the floppy drive also. All you need is the cpu and 1 stick of ram. See if you can enter the bios and make the CPU settings. If that works, then gradually add in components.

- Put a different PSU in it.
- remove all cards except for the videocard.
- disconnect all HDDs, CD-rom drives etc.
- try to start the system again.
- if it fails again, remove the mainboard from the case and put it on a non-conducting surface.
- try to start the system again.
- if it still fails, the mainboard has likely passed on and is beyond rescue.

its still not working guys. i changed the PSU, put the motherboard in a non-conductive box (the one that coms with the xp333 board), took all the cards out, even tried different video cards and several PSU's. i guess its the motherboard =( i never thought about the ram though..ill go try that before i sign up for an RMA. thanks for the help so far!

wow that sucks. there are a lot of people here, its bound to happen to some of us.

If its not your psu, its your motherboard. That is, if the computer will still not turn on at all.

If you tried it with a new psu, just ram/cpu/video then I would think it's dead.

If your tried different ram/cpu/video or at least tested to see if all those components work on another board are alive, then I would suggest trying to get an RMA for your motherboard.

When you first hit the power button to turn it on does the CPU fan like twitch like its gonna start? I was in the middle of 3Dmark2001 before any my Athlon system just shut down and would not turn back on. My problem was the PSU. I was using a 250watt on a o/ced Athlon and o/ced Geforce 2 GTS 64mb.

Some mobos have fan and some don't even though they use the same chipset. Test your PSU. Unplug the PSU from mobo, connect PSU to outlet and turn the rear switch on. Take a paperclip and short the connector that connects to green to case using a paperclip. Your PSU should turn on and turn off when you let the paper clip go from chasis.

Hey if you fried it it is unethical and a criminal act(fraudulent merchandise return) to RMA it.

do not test your psu this way , its a sure way to damage it . the psu needs a load on it to opperate or the 5v rail will over volt, if you must test the psu use a mobo as the load , or get a proper tester Antec make one only costs a few pounds see below from Jungle.com site

um if i RMA it because its broken, then thats fine. it came with a heatsink that was very inferior to the blue orb, i was just wondering if that had anything to do with it. im sure it didnt though, thats not even the issue anymore, it just wont turn on and i can not figure out why. the board works...i put it in another computer, and the PSU works, i got it to turn on another system...so wtf is going on here? i cant seem to figure this one out

well i found the problem. there was 2 things wrong. one, there was an oreo squashed up on the power switch button. and two, there was a cut in the power cord line i used for the computer at this place on the desk. very unlikely problems...one wouldnt think an oreo would find its way onto a set of jumpers. i dont really think that was inhibiting it from turning on, though. i think the cord worked itself under the back of my desk and eventually just wore out. i never thought to check that though as that is not a usual problem. oh well, thanks anyways guys.

i at least learned how to check my PSU from this thread
