My computer WONT TURN ON!!!

My computer was all fine and good, then someone had to remove my sound card (a different story). He removed it, but I wasn't in the room at the time so I dunno what exactly happened. We ended up putting the sound card back in though, and when everyone left and I tried to flip on my computer, IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. The power cord is plugged in, I've messed with the orange switch dealy, tried multiple power cords, I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of but it still wont turn on.

Help? ;~;

By "won't turn on," do you mean

1) no fans, no drive activity, it literally ignores you when you push the power button

or

2) fans come on, drives spin, but no monitor display is seen

or

3) it POSTS but it won't boot up to Windows

?

First option, it wont turn on at all; the button does absolutely nothing.

k, now check these two things:

1) your case's bezel is fully seated against the front wall of the case, so that its pushbutton actuates the power switch on the case wall

2) that your case's power-switch wire is still plugged into the motherboard's header, maybe it got unplugged while your pal was working in there.


If that doesn't resolve it, post full specs please.

edit: since you appear to live in the US, set your power supply to 115 volts on the orange slide-switch thingie.

He might have pulled some LED cords. Check your Motherboard Manual for the correct settings. The only thing I can think of that would make your computer do that is a dead PSU or LED cords. And since it sounds like your friend didnt do anything to hard the PSU. and the sound card is probably PCI so It's located near the wiring that connects to the LEDS (In my computer at least.) He may have pulled them. And even if they are connected he might have got scared and just put them in random places to correct his mestake.

I think both of those things are correct, but it's still not working. The person who pulled the stuff out is back here again testing stuff.

We have another power supply here to test with, but we cant get the original one out of the computer; one of the dealys is stuck. ;/

A light is showing up on the motherboard that we didn't notice before, so I guess thats getting power, although nothing is happening.

I also cant find anything like that on it. >.<

Try disconnecting the floppy drive? I had a bad one a couple of days ago, and the same thing happened.

As luck would have it, this computer doesn't have the drivers for my webcam, so I tried using my binocular camera, in which everything was too dark (It's for outside use ;/).

"The power supply tested positive for only 20 pin port, and then the 4 pin thing does not test positive" - Person whose doing stuff

Sounds like your computer died due to static electricity discharge. Was your friend taking the necessary precautions when they opened the computer up and started touching the components?

That's the brand (and a respectable one, too). Model? FSP-300-blah blah? or whatever. It is really difficult to help people when they can't get me basic information about the hardware in question without resorting to fuzzy webcam photos to see if I recognize Motherboard X on sight, so work with me here

Ok. What color is the motherboard? Green, sort of gold-tone, Ferrari red, blue, black or salmon-pinkish?

While you're at it:

1) how many hard drives does the computer have

2) how many optical drives does the computer have

3) what type of video card does the computer have (Radeon 9600XT, GeForce FX5900, etc)

4) if you know, what speed and type is the CPU (Pentium4 2.4GHz, Celeron 2.8GHz, whatever)

Well I guess you could go by process of elimination. In other words disconect all your drives and remove your cards. See if it will then turn on. If it does start reconnecting one at a time until you find the problem device. If the machine won't turn on with these devices discoonected, then I would say motherboard or power supply at fault.

On a test for the power supply, "the standard 20pin connector was working however the 4 pin was not lighting up at all on the tester"
