O.K. , all of these recent bug/spider images posted here lately got me thinking....... my Olympus D450Z has a macro mode too.
I nearly walked right into this rather large spider when I went to reach for the hose on the side of the house. After recovering from being startled, my next thought was "hey - I should get some macro close-ups and post this guy on ATOT!" - go figure

First pic of spider
The CLOSE-UP!!!!
Light background for better contrast

Sooooooo.... all you armchair arachnid observers........... what genus/phylum is this one???

Cool pics. As always, we have no way of guessing how big it is. Put something next to it as a point of reference... like a finger.

Hmmmm - size reference = good idea (why didn't I think of that?)
Using finger for size reference = bad idea!

From the tips of the front legs to the tip of the rear legs I estimated about 1.25 inches.

Good thing you saw it before you walked right into it's web and it ate you alive!

My worst fear happened tonight, there was a spider in my bed. He's inside the Hoover now, but it was touch and go for awhile there.

i had one of those for a pet for a few months it was a bit bigger, about an inch and a half w/ legs, kept him in a little popcorn jar with holes poked in it, fed him flys and such........that was cool, then i cought another one and kept him too, looked like a black widdow, only it was all red :Q wish i had a digicam, but this was many years ago!

They're harmless.. They can't pierce your skin. I used to play with them all the time when I was younger and not so afraid of bitey things.

I currently have 3 "pet" spiders. One, I've had for about 2 months. It had a really huge rear end when I caught it, and I thought it was perhaps a small black widow.. but it has no hourglass. After about a month it made an eggsack and slimmed down considerably. Now it just looks like a icky black spider.

About 2 days ago, I picked up her medicine bottle-home and thought, "Damn.. she sure does sh!t a lot."

Then I noticed all the sh!ts had legs. :Q

The other two are actually in the same jar. I caught a geuine hobo spider(disgust) about a week ago. I caught a bigger, harmless wolf spider looking spider today, and put it in there. They faught for a bit, but then took up residence, one on each side of the jar.

Oddly enough, I hate spiders.. *shiver*.. but capturing them and keeping them alive gives me some sort of strange satisfaction in control..

I wish I had a good digicam, I'd love to document my "experiments"..

What's a hobo spider? Never heard of that kind before.
