Well, I can revive them. But the time they are down, they aren't cracking code. My family inadvertantly hit the X box and close the program. Is there a way to keep the cows up on there feet even when someone wants to X them out?

You could run them as a service, but the downside is that there is no "Cow" icon in the task bar....

I think the command line is "dnetc -install" or "dnetc -svcstart"....

I think the first one installs the client as a service, the second changes an already installed client to a service (Anyone?)...

Good Luck!

Put the client in quite mode, so that they don't have the option.

The command is " dnetc.exe -install" to make it a serice on win32 machines. works on 98,NT, and 2000pro. I spent te last few hrs. doing it.

Tripleshot,

With my customers who give me permission to leave it on, I recently started installing it as a service (just found out that works with 98). One less thing for them to mess with. As a service, it's completely invisible.

I just found the quiet key.It said it's default was yes but for some reason it was set to no.I set it to yes and now my cow is gone.If I want to see it's progress, how would I do that now since my cow is gone?

I have gone back into the x/program folder/distrbuted.net folder and clicked on my cow and ...NOTHING...That damn cow just stares at me.(program won't launch)

I don't think I like this.If I can't somehow check my herd,I will need to go back to the way it was. That would mean an uninstall and lost blocks, right?

You can just check the Last Modified timestamps on your buff-in and buff-out files.

If you reinstall it, cut and paste the buffer files into another folder, reinstall, then copy them back to your dnet folder and fire it up. no lost blocks

Go to the directory and type "dnetc -shutdown", then "dnetc.exe -noquiet". That should restart the client in "view mode"...

You can probably create a batch file to do this....

Hmmm, Yep, I just tried it and worked fine..

You can then create a batch file to place it back in quiet mode..

Batchfile: Noquiet.bat
cd "directory where distributed net is"
dnetc -shutdown
pause
dnetc.exe -noquiet
exit

Batchfile: Quiet.bat
cd "directory where distributed net is"
dnetc -shutdown
pause
dnetc.exe -quiet
exit

Give the client time to shutdown before pressing the "Press any key to continue" or it will not sork correctly....

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info.I will try it tommorrow.I need to recover from my coronary losing my favorite cow.(I think it's a hereford bull).I had a 25nday old client that came with an uninstall program.I used it and I think it uninstalled everything except what it was supposed to. I re installed the client(BTW,Alpha does NOT work)and no go.I could not get to command file.Next step---I removed the folder(into the trash went ditributed.net folder). I then went back and installed the client for the 4th time and now it seems to be working.I copied my buffer folders into a new folder saved in my docs file.I will now try and put it into the newly created distributed .net folder.I hope I haven't lost those blocks, but I dont have anymore than 7 at a time anyways.

Tripleshot, I have configured my clients to keep a log file. To check the status, open the log file in Wordpad. It looks just like the text that the client window shows, only you get more history than just the last 20 lines.

[logging]
log-file-type=rotate
log-file-limit=weekly
log-file=yournamehere

Also, be sure you have "checkpoint" enabled as below. This means you'll never lose large amounts of keys if the power goes off or Winblows locks up on you.

[buffers]
checkpoint-filename=checkpoint.cpt
