To everyone else, thanks for the support. I was planning on sticking to my guns, but its tough because I've always been really close with him.

Don't worry about doze, including emo is likely the result of his own limitations. It's obvious he wasn't attempting to post a meaningful reply.

Tell him you've decided to become mormon... He'll probably welcome you being agnostic after that.

I always thought catholics can't come back if they denounce their faith. There's a few other things you can do that you can't come back as well like divorce.

<---Catholic

LOL.

It amazes me how many idiot "christians" don't know jack shit about the fucking religion they claim to believe in.

You are a total and utter moron.

i grew up in a pentecostal Christian home and was a church-goer/believer until i was about your age. The same thing happened with me (thought about everything and decided it wasn't possible to know; still that way BTW) and eventually I spoke with my parents about it. Luckily, i have kind and loving parents and they assured me that no matter what I did or chose to believe they would love me, but they were very concerned and wanted me to grow up a moral and god-fearing individual. I'm not a parent and until i am i can't really confirm this, but from what i gathered in my situation, your parents generally want to bring you up as they were or as they see fit because they feel that will make you happiest in life (unless you have shitty parents, that is). For my parents it has a lot to due with moral values and going to hell, etc. All they have requested from me is that I keep an open mind and never close myself so much that I could not even consider Christianity. I feel this is very understandable and I have kept an open mind (about all religions and walks of life, for that matter). I talk about the issue often with my parents and every time we get closer to how the other feels and it always ends with be open minded and think about things. The only advice i can give to you is talk to your parents about it and tell them how and why you feel the way you feel. I've always felt the only thing my parents really dislike about me is that i don't tell them how i feel and what i'm doing enough and they just want to know so they can help...or just to know how their son is doing. That isn't much for a parent to ask of their child so i think you should oblige and let them know if they want. Whatever the outcome may be, keep an open mind and never shun them away for their criticism and anger at your personal choice.

PM me if you have any personal questions oh, i'm 21 if age matters to you...

The problem with translations is that how the quote is interpreted is up to the point of view of the reader. For example, I could read that and take it to mean that it's perfectly ok for men to tell lies to women, but not to men. I could also interpret that to mean that women are not a subset of mankind.

Or does "lie" in this context mean "to lay down with"? Or, perhaps, "to have sex with"? In your opinion, it has a certain specific meaning, but how do you know that your opinion is correct? Did someone tell you?

Your confusion with the word "lie" happens after the word is translated from Latin. Prior to translation, there's no question about what's meant.

IIRC the Bible wasn't originally written in Latin. What did the original text say, and in how many different ways could it be interpreted?

Goddamn zombie messiahs. Make sure it's a headshot this time.

The situation was not even aboot religion anyway. That's incidental to the questioning of authorita and mental framework. The closed-minded can only take it as a personal offense. Whether they can be faulted for that is debatable since it is inherently part of the package, as 'twere, and carrying on is easier.

So the threads old, has your dad gotten over it yet? Tell him not to worry because Catholicism is about a stones throw from Agnosticism as it is. It's the difference between someone who goes to church once a year and someone who goes one less.

There is but 1 translation:
20:13 And if a man has sex relations with a man as he does with a woman, the two of them have done a disgusting thing: let them be put to death; their blood will be on them.

I'm not going to read through the 7 pages of this, so I'll just tell you what I would do.

I'm in the same boat - raised Catholic, now a Recovering Catholic - but I haven't told my parents a thing. If they ever ask, this is what I planned to tell them:

I simply can't MAKE myself believe in God. I also didn't MAKE myself NOT believe. I'm not completely discounting the possibility that there might be a God, but in my life, the only reason I have to believe in God is a book that was written thousands of years before I was born. If there is a God, then he/she made me, and therefore he or she understands fully that I'm the type of person that needs to see and feel something before I believe in it.

Exactly. That being said, at 15 and still living at home, you fall into the "His house and his rules" situation.

I sympathize with the OP. My parents didn't take it very well that I'm no longer Christian. I'm not anything, really.

However, they simply try to sneak Christianity onto my kids. Once a year my wife and I take a week off from work and the kids spend that time at my parents' house. They use that time to convert my 4 and 5 year old. :|
