Im not impressed with the SSD. OS feel wise it was just like my rig.

Except yes with SSD, things pop up in 0 seconds, apps that take even 2 seconds will take 0 with SSD. Loading of windows was 35 seconds.

Loading of spybot search and destroy, fast but not instant at all. few seconds. I mean I know how you can go SSD and never turn back. But to save 1 second off a load time its not worth it to me. Ill stick to mechanical drive, especially when I defrag with Defraggler ,, apps launch instantly for me too,, Winamp 0 seconds,, all browsers 0 to 1 seconds. OS took a nice time to load which told me a lot along with Spybot... ... Windows WEI score was 7.5 btw.

It was sure cute looking at 8 in taskman and speedfan..

Anyhow one day I will, but today is not the day. D:

And sorry mod. or Mark I couldnt find the thread about my dad getting new rig. I couldn't find it so I created this thread. Im sorry! forgive me!

The point wasn't that Spybot would run in a second or two, it was that you can still do other things while it was running. You can't do that with a spindle drive. I can run Spybot, SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes all at the same time while doing other things. Try doing that with a spindle drive and it will take longer for all three at the same time than if you were to do them separately, one after the other.

The heavier you multitask, the more you will notice the results. Launching winamp isn't much of a test of an SSD.

1) Samsung F4 320GB are some of the faster HDDs made. If you are running those two in RAID, even faster.
2) You seem to use extra steps to make sure your HDDs are in tip top shape.
3) SSD /= instant. SSD = "faster than HDD." Speed costs $$$. Will a Nissan GT-R outperform a Mitsubishi Evo-X? Sure. Is it faster enough to justify the cost?
4) I forget what 4 was for (with apologies to Violent Femmes).

You have RAID 0 F4 320's? Well those are going to be pretty quick, not SSD quick, but still quick. I doubt you would notice much of a difference either from your setup. There are only certain games and programs that really seem to shine when loaded from an SSD, others have been optimised to rely on as much RAM as possible and never really benefit from the faster hardware. All in all, the price for entry into this club is relatively high, but only if you NEED a lot of space on the C:\. Otherwise, the 128gb SSD can be had fairly cheaply at this point, and paired with a decent sized secondary HDD, you'd be hard pressed to go back.

I agree though, a lot of people hype the hell of SSD's... I think the only place where they could be considered an almost mandatory upgrade is in a laptop... as was the case with my G73. It felt slow and not worthy of the price tag until I slapped my SSD in it.. now it's almost as fast as the desktop it replace... GPU withstanding.

[Windows WEI score was 7.5 btw ] may suggest it is on a sata 2 port.
On the first reviews the C300 SSD was the fastest of the ssd on sata 3 and the slowest on sata 2
I get a WEI score of 7.5 on my 1366 with sata 2.
My z68 gets a max WEI of 7.9 on a sata 3.

It's not only about the loading time but about responsiveness.

It's just not comparable especially after windows starts "degrading". Also the impressiveness comes with using such a PC for an extend time and then switch back. It doesn't feel that cool at first only if you go back after a while.

This reminded me of the day a consultant company used launching Excel and Word benchmark as to how fast VDI is.

Actually my Dad is the one who got me and my cousin in PC. back in the 80's with Prodigy and Tandy , then 386 and 486 then P2... My dad has built a couple rigs himself.

Why he needs it what does he do ?

He uses Photoshop and does Video Editing,,, rendering a 1 hour video will be fast,, overall photoshop doing things will be smoother and faster.

He needed it cuz rendering times on his old Pentium D were too much 45 minutes for 2 minute video. Soo we upgraded. Also I was smart enough to tell him to put in on SSD, espeicallly since his C is 105GB ,, soo he can stash evertything in the SSD. and has another 750GB. SSD will helhp with video editing for shure. Also he uses Quicken , and Tax , and has lots of documents and pics. But mainly He uses the HT apps photoshop and premiere video. He deserved a fast machine, been since 2006 his old pc. plus hes 69 years old,, let him have fun and enjoy life ....

how fast did you set your 2600K

if you tell me stock i am disappoint.

My dad payed extra 20 dollars for them to OC it 20 percent. As if we couldn't do it ourselves. Whatever floats the boat.

Its at 3.8Ghz with RAM @ 1600Mhz at like 1.30blah voltage. Its a CyberPowerPC.com Gigabyte lower model mobo and Z68 chipset.

Its his comp I dont wanna touch it. I think 3.8 is fast enough alto if I had that CPU under water I would go 5Ghz myself.

It's probably more like he won't let you touch it....and I don't blame him!
Wouldn't we all?

PS: Great chart IDC, but it's really only stopgap - what do I do if I want to search for some other posts than tweakboys?

You know if you drive a civic and someone bought a Kenworth and you drove it and all you wanted to do is go 55 you would say the same thing.

Now try pulling 30 tons with the tractor. The civic is going to be useless.

Point is if you don't NEED to do the work you don't need the cubic inches. (MIPS)

Spybot? Really? Who even bothers with that crap any more?

It's funny the only people that say things like that are the people that are not or have never tried - water cooling. Water cooling is NOT a magic thing to let you run at n frequency.
