My daughter's service dog took a huge dump at Walmart yesterday.

Evidence that the average Walmart employee is too stupid/ignorant to comprehend the difference between dog as a pet and dog as a service animal.

Maybe a breakdown by the employees, but honestly, do you expect random bystanders to run up and offer to pick up your dog's crap for you?

The only problem I see is the 'tude the employee gives, but I also sense a slight sense of entitlement here by the OP as well.

Praise the dog's intelligence all you want, but the bottom line is that it DID take a huge, smelly crap on someone else's property.

I really fail to understand why you would even think Walmart has an obligation to pick up your dog's pile of shit at all, beyond doing it as a courtesy and not wanting to gross out other customers. If I take my dog to the park and he takes a dump, I don't expect anyone else to pick it up but me.

first off i think if you need a service dog then graet. you should have the right to take it anywhere and any company that refuses should be fined and publicily humiliated.

saying that i agree with qed and itchreleif. who cares how smart you think the dog is it still took a shit on someone else's property. it is YOUR job to pick it up and not the employee's. to expect bystanders to do anything is wrong. it is not there responbility to do so.

OP - I'm confused. Don't you always carry plastic bags with you in case of situations like this? Why would you expect anybody to help your daughter since you were there? I would think this is a daily occurrence for you(picking up after the dog and then holding onto the bag til you find a proper place to dispose of it).

do you mean to ask why does she require the use of a service dog? or just in the store?

Well both, really. I'm guessing there are certain disabilities that require the use of a service dog out on the street but that could be left outside. Not so with other disabilities, obviously.

Gawdless, why prolong your negative moment in the sun? You were ignorant as to what a service animal is. No huge deal, but better to just admit it, get over it, and move on.

 it's not my problem if people misinterpret a question I asked. Some readers decided to infer a negative tone in my writing, fine.

For those who missed it - we did manage to pick it up ourselves. That's not what I was going on about. The fact that he left her holding this bag of crap in the middle of a bunch of people was a bit off if you ask me.

The guy who was so gallant and offer to take a pic with his cell could have taken a hike as far as I'm concerned. He only degraded my daughter's condition in her unfortunate situation.

As far as bystanders go, I had to find the bags while they were immediately in front of many people. They could have pointed to them quicker than I could find them. It would have been simple to do. They were on the other side of the counter from me, so it take a little longer than it need of been.

Awwww, man, it's just another one of those slightly unfortunate situations.

I do understand your emotions about it, but I'm guessing that they stem more from you're wanting to "protect" both your daughter and your mom from any "embarrassment" resulting from this situation.

Disability, hell, being markedly and noticeably "different" from those around you in public has to endlessly low-level SUCK, and I'm sure underneath this all you consider your young daughter as "collateral damage" in the "suck sandwich" of your Mom's disability.

But don't mistakenly put it all on the onlookers. It's not their fault. In this situation, your daughter will be unconsciously looking to YOU for how to feel about all this.

If YOU take it all lightly and naturally with no blame or shame for anyone, your daughter will, too . . . and your mom will be silently grateful that no one makes any of this into a bigger deal than it need be.

In the end, this world only works well if we all uncomplainingly pick up after ourselves, even if our personal piles are a bit larger and more publically dumped than other's are.

If someone else has the manners and grace to help, GREAT. If they don't, they don't. Hating them for not is brutally unproductive.

Hope you take all this in the constructive vein in which it's meant, OP.

yeah. like blindness. they can leave the service dog outside while they go in and shop.

Sounds like Walmart...

You or your daughter should have cleaned all the shit up.

And you expect the employee to smile and be jolly to clean up someones dog shit? I don't get it.

If your daughter is training service dogs...I don't think her father should be there.

If a freaking service dog doesn't know to alert it's owner to go outside it should be a crime .
