I still have my card so obviously it was skimmed somehow. It was used today for two transactions at a Redbox in Illinois ($2 and $3), another at a Marriot in Hawaii for $1, and $900 at a discount sears store also in Illinois. Somehow the first 3 were approved and the last attempt threw the red flag. I called and denied these so they closed the card and will be sending me a new one.

It just occurred to me that since they ok'd the rentals and the thief has no intentions of returning them, will Redbox come after me? I'm definitely going to call my bank and Redbox tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone has gone through this before. Read a few stories of this happening and they didn't follow up and was hit with a collections notice for the rentals.

what bank and what type of ID theft protection if any? Mine was traced back to possibly being taken from a pizza hut that apparently had other complaints. i got hit with the low dollar wal mart amounts and then a huge 4 digit purchase. when i talked to my credit union they pretty much asked me a bunch of questions about recent transactions that i said yes i remember or no i have no idea. something about traveling since the fraudulent transactions were in california and i live in virginia. it was all recorded. they refunded the 4 digit amount immediately and i got a case statement about it several months later.

yes, call them immediately and dont put it off. i wouldnt hang up until i had everything squared away.

The only time I ever got a "did ya get stealed" call was when I bought a new $500 TV from Best Buy. Funny because I used that card to buy a $1000 TV from Best Buy just months prior.

I think the purchase of a second TV set so close to the first is what flagged it. Not the price.
