My department is getting relocated =/ *Update* My position is being eliminated

Just had a "Development Team Meeting" where my bosses bosses boss came and let my department know that they are moving the whole thing to Denver (from ~Kansas City). They are doing 1 on 1's with everyone this afternoon to discuss options. Good thing I have absolutely no attachment to Kansas.

Just wanted to vent slightly. Sorry.

Update:

Just got done with my 1 on 1. My position as a whole is being eliminated, so there is no option for me to move to Denver unless I apply for a completely new/different position. The move is happening roughly at the end of June 2011, so I have lots of time. This seems like a sign to move to Florida with my SO. I mean, I'm getting two months of severance and then a lump sum after that.

Should I be thinking of anything else?

Ideally, but I needed another ~6 months. I'm not sure when the department move will take place. Maybe it will be 6 months from now, but I doubt it.

Denver is far better than KC. It would suck if they were moving somewhere worse than KC but since they aren't, I'd stick with them. They may offer to pay some moving costs.

Just stay away from Saudi Aurora.

Really the only problem I have is that my SO is wanting to move back to Florida (which is what KT is referencing). Her family is there and she needs to be near them. In my 1 on 1 I'm going to ask them about the Orlando office. Maybe I can get a spot there.

I've been in KC for 5+ years now and I'm not that impressed by it. If my company was moving me out to Denver, I don't think I would mind too much.

Visiting friends and family would change from a 2 hour drive to a 12 hour drive though. :\

I'd slit my wrists before moving to Florida. It's just too fucking hot and humid there...like living in hell but with tons of old people and tourists and bugs the size of cats.

My dad lives in southern Georgia, so I know what the weather is like . The thought of hurricanes scares me a bit, though.

My Mom lives in Melbourne. Winter is nice but summer is hell. You'd have to pay me a shit ton of money to move there willingly.

If that's the case, then I'd ask about the Orlando office and if they say no, time to start looking for a job in Florida.

There's no reason to move to Denver if you're just going to move to Florida in the next year or two.
