I've been losing about 1lb a week since I moved out of my parents' house after college. I eat healthier and more normal portions now. My mom loves to shove food at me and we mostly ate junk food in college. I don't exercise a lot, but I take the stairs if I'm not carrying groceries and I walk as much as I can while I'm at work. I'm down to 183 from 195 back in March.

He basically guarantees if I come the three days a week I schedule with him for half hour each day, I will lose 8 pounds per month, and eventually get down to my target rate of "below 200". I WAS at 260 back in January, if you all remember, and now I'm 220. So I lost 40 pounds on my own....

But without something life changing like being forced to work out, I'll never get over my ex... go figure.

Anyway, so what do you all think? Good move?!

I just posted in your YAMGT and am appalled by this comment. Your ex has nothing to do with your weight. It's all in your head. Get out and LIVE goddannit!!! If you want to lose some weight and get serious at a gym then do it! I'm all for you sweating and feeling good about yourself, just as long as it's not to rub it in someone's face.

When you get all buff and slim and then find out that it doesn't make a difference to her (I'm talking long run, not some 6 month get-back-together and then become content and understand she's still a b!tch thing) you'll be even more distraught. Seek professional physical training, as well as professional emotional training if you have to. Live life to make yourself happy. Don't live life to make someone else happy. Workout with a trainer says I!!!

Weight training is not the best solution. The only thing that will happen is a trade of bulky fat to bulky fat with some muscle underneath. It will still not look right. Weight training is especially bad for someone under the age of 24 since lifting weights will compress the ends of the bones at the joints, these are the growth areas, resulting in a shorter, stockier shape.

The best thing to do is a slow and easy jog, without stopping, for a predetermined distance such as 1.5 - 3 miles. If you can walk for two miles, why can you not jog for two miles? This is what motivated me to get back in shape and it worked and I eventually moved up to running 6 miles since I knew I could easily walk for ten or more miles if I wanted to. Just take it easy and concentrate on completing the distance rather than pushing for a fast time.

When your heart and lungs are in better shape and your body is slimmer then work on completing 10 push-ups a day. When you can do 10 push-ups each day then increase it to 15 and then 20. Then do these push-ups twice a day or even during a break while at work, probably in an empty office or conference room to avoid distraction. There is no need to lift weights if you cannot even complete 40 push-ups.

Another thing you can do on your own are lunges. These work your thighs and buttocks. From a standing position, step forward with one foot and go down until the knee of your back leg touches the ground. Then push yourself back up to return to your original standing position. I guarantee that doing 20 of these, 10 for each leg, will leave your buttocks sore for a week.

Then work on situps. Do 40, then 60, then 80, and work your way up to 200.

After a few months of such exercise will your body be prepared to work in the gym without injury.

I know nothing of what I am doing with weights, nor do I know how to eat. They do all of that. Plus, you're right, during that last 10 weight lifts, it would be really good to have someone yelling so I finish them.

yeah a pt is awesome that guy is a real idoit who prob doesnt work out either. All the movie stars use them because they give you the best work out. I have worked out for about 6 years and working with another person far exceeds working alone
