my dog is going to be put down tomorrow....

today, after coming down the stairs, he just laid down in one spot. usually he would get up and move around, but today he didnt. he stayed in the same spot and when we tried to make him get up (we tried for hours), we realized that he couldnt...and that he had probably given up after weeks of medication (he has cancer that has spread and is untreatable). with that in mind, my dad decided that it is best to put him down tomorrow. i dont blame him...no one would want see someone live their life like this for the rest of their life.

he will be 11 and a half years old soon...a beautiful male german shepherd named Caesar. he always protected my family and i, and never once complained or asked for anything except for our love and care, which we have always given to him.

rest in peace Caesar...we all love you very much and you will always be in our hearts forever. :brokenheart:

i cant even post a picture of him...it makes me cry too much. maybe i will in a few days...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

technically you shouldn't have too.

most dogs treated properly die of 'old age' more or less. If a pet does develop a chronic and painful condition I believe euthanasia should be allowed (also for people).

My main problem is most pet owners seem to pick euthanasia as the best option for them and not their pet.

To the OP. I have no reason to believe that your dog had nothing but the best life. Cancer just sucks.

It sort of allows a loophole to the pets don't go to heaven issue many religions preach.

Personally I don't know why any God out there would create an animal so dedicated to their master that they'd exclude it in the afterlife.

Perhaps the first scribe 2000+ years ago was simply dyslexic and transposed the real creator.

One of our dogs is 18 next month and her time is coming to an end pretty soon. We're hoping she will die of old age and pass away in her sleep but she's still pushing on. We've had her since I was 3 so I don't remember a time when she wasn't in the family. However, she really doesn't do anything other than sleep nowadays so it won't be such a shock once we have to put her down.

Losing a dog that's been in your family for so long sucks.
