Sorry to hear that... animals are people and it's amazing how attached we can become to them.

Hope things work out.

Here's what I would have done:

Upon seeing his dog running to attack mine, I would have whipped out my .45 and plugged a few into the beast. Then when the professor gets angry, plug a few into his noggin.

But since you didn't do that, I would definitely find out where this person lives and when he's away, break inside and show his dog into hellgates. When the prof comes back he would have a nice new rug decorating his dinner table.

I'm really sorry to hear that Dogs are like children, except for two things - dogs show some intelligence, and unless treated badly, dogs aren't mean-spirited. If someone was responsible for the death of my boy (a shih-tsu), for better or worse, I'd be in jail for murdering them.

That's the spirit! Although you should work on that "in jail" part. Only rookies go to jail.

The only logical option is to have the state seeze his animal since he:

a) appearantly could not control it
b) did not want to take responsibility for it

Today me and my wife were walking the dog around campus on a leash. Another guy on the other side of the street was also walking his dog on the leash and all of a sudden, the guy's leash broke came and bit my dog in the neck. After his dog let go, he just walked away, and I had to go and stop him.

He repeatedly said that my dog is ok, and to not worry and would not apologize until we asked him to. Even though he did, it was not sincere. My wife was crying and ask why he did not say sorry when it happened, and the guy raise his voice. We immediatly took my dog to an emergency clinic, but it was already too late.

I then reported this to the campus police. The police clld the guy to ask what happnened. Thankfully, the guy admitted fault and said he will take responsibility. the cop called me back and said that I can call him and we can negotiate.

I really dont know what to do. My dog is a 13 week old welsh corgi, and we had it for about 2 months. I dont know what to 'negotiate.' I hate the guy, to tell you the truth. He killed my dog. My dog literally died in our arms while we were driving to the hospital.

I"m not in the mood to call him now, but when I call him, what do I say? We lost a live being, a best friend, there is really no dollar value that can replace this. I just dont know what to do from here.

anybody ever have this experience. what do I do?
:| :| :| :|

tell him you want at least the replacement value, and for his dangerous dog to kept in a pen.

I may be a bit of a nut, but if any animal came after my dog I would've stopped it short with a kick to the throat. (non-lethal attitude adjustment for a bad dog intent on attack)

But most people aren't as paranoid as I am and think when a growling aggressive dog is approaching their dog that it only "wants to make friends".

Still feeling bad for the OP. I lost two dogs in the last year and it ripped my heart out both times. I have a new mutt and I am looking forward to years with her.

That really sucks, I wouldn't know what to do in your situation. Money won't bring it back, and it seems that just asking for replacement value would be a very shallow thing to do. I'd suggest asking him to have his dog enrolled in obedience classes so that it doesn't happen to someone else. Even though it make seem odd to you, I'd suggest asking for the price of a new dog, too.

Somehow I doubt that all the obedience classes in the world will fix a vicious dog. They should just kill it.

I am sooo sorry this happened to you. i cannot imagine what it is like to have a pet die in my arms. that would have to be the saddest thing ever.

My heart goes out to you.

now for the guy... you need to make sure that the other dog is not rabid... suppose he does this all the time. what's next, a kid? I would also ask that he pay for the vets bill and replace the dog. not that another dog would replace this.. but perhaps another one will fill the loss.

Man, that ain't right. Take him to small claims court if there is a leash law in your city or if the campus has one.
Sounds like negligence to me. The least you should ask for is the Vet bill. There may be punitive relief available to you (depending on the statutes. The terms you want to use in your complaint are "callous behavior to traumatized owner", "initially attempted to evade", negligent as to the "broken" leash, either the leash was inadequate for the size of his dog, or the leash was worn, cut, or otherwise subject to failure and should have not been in service. .

Since he's admitted fault, I would triple the vet's bill and add whatever it might cost to replace. That wouldn't be unreasonable seeing as you said he showed his "smarky" side to your wife.

Second, your "negotiation" should be for a replacement animal of equal value.

Pets are property, have him buy you a new puppy.

I agree with the first part, but not the second. Pets may be property in the eyes of the law, but in the eyes of any true pet owner they are a unique individual part of the family. I'd like to see you explain to my gf how her 14 year old Shiztu is property when she has so many memories and feelings for her.

Sorry for your loss man Pretty sh!tty time for this to happen too

They guy had it on a leash, there was nothing he could have done. His only obligation is to buy another dog. At least he is admitting fault and trying to resolve the situation.

Our animals are more important than most people, including you. I've hated people for less.

Not disagreeing with that.

Altho the fact that this dog was out of control enough to kill another should make it subject to whatever law is there, even if it is putting it down. Don't tell me it hasn't happened before/won't happen again.
