I'll rip it's jaw open.

With our current legal system and the ASPCA, you'd probably be in less trouble if you did that to the owner!

On another forum, someone was telling the story of how two dogs got loose from her neighbor's yard, hopped over into hers and killed their pooch. The two dogs were deemed aggressive and dangerous and taken to the shelter. Despite the fact that the owners of these two dogs tried desperately to get them returned, they were destroyed after several court battles.

It's heartbreaking to hear stories like these. For those who are heartless and deem pets as nothing more than a piece of property that can be replaced, then you have absolutely no compassion. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost my pup, pigs, fish or turtle due to someone else's negligence. The fact that the guy would not apologize willingly shows that he is an irresponsible owner. For all you know, he may have known that his leash has been loose, but just didn't feel like getting a new one.

I should retract that, as a pet owner, I would not want to see that happen to my pet either...

but yes, you're probably right.

i've read mainly the OP and the update, it seems this guy is taking repsonsability for it and it sounds like he is trying to be decent (he admited right away, you were able to talk to him on the phone like a rational person, and offered to replace your dog) most other people would try to blow something like this off, and try to get out of it not paying a dime (even if it lead to court), don't abuse his decency by trying to pull a fast one and over charging for your dog

I have a young dog myself and I cannot imagine the pain you suffered. You deserve a hansome reward for your loss, I'd estimate around $1,000. If he is reluctant than tell him you will take him to court and his dog will be at risk of death as well. Not that money can replace your dog, but it certainly can bring justice to that dick.

A little bit off poison on a hotdog wont be a bad idea.

And a better idea will be to give THAT hotdog to HIS dog.

PD: You seem a little bit scared of this guy...Is he a BIG modafuka???

hmm i do not htink you get paid Emotional damages for a pet being killed. They consider the pet property.

vandalism, then...

i mean, sh.it, this prick deserves to be taught a legal lesson. i say emotional damages, emergency bills, and the price of a showdog welsh corgi puppy...

i feel so terribly for you, man if i lived close by, i'd egg his house for you and then take a hot crap on his car.

You sound like a class act.

i can't tell whether this is a flame or flame-bait... either way, it's against the rules of the thread. better watch out.

hmmm, get at least $1000 back for loses and that's the VERY least, as said above, if he doesn't pay, take it to court and his dog would have a high risk of death.

Perhaps just asking for a fair price for replacement dog is in order.
I have experience in court concerning animal cases and I will tell you that the judge may see that the other dog owner was taking all precautions with his dog ( he was using a leash) and this was all just an unfortunate accident (which I think is correct). This other dog owner willl most likely NOT come across as an asshat in court, but will try to come across as another dog lover, whom unfortunately had a leash break and his dog got loose and killed another dog.

High risk of death will not happen unless this dog has attacked before, (off of the owners property) After more than one unprovoked attack off of the owners property will a dog be labled as a vicious dog. Even then death is not immenient unless the dog attacks again (off of the owners property) after being labled as a vicious dog.

Exactly.

I believe eits is taking it a bit too far. Sh!tting on his car? egging his house? It was a mistake. It's not like he got drunk beforehand and ran over the dog, or had malice intent to maim it either.

What the man is doing is honorable and by trying to extort further monies from him is borderline immoral. Charge him for the cost of the new pet and med costs. If he gets a reasonable quote from a licensed vet, it should be fair game for dispute.

What a jerk (the other dog owner. Good job on getting his info...I wouldn't even know what to say to a jerk like that if he killed my dog (If I had one).

He repeatedly said that my dog is ok, and to not worry and would not apologize until we asked him to. Even though he did, it was not sincere. My wife was crying and ask why he did not say sorry when it happened, and the guy raise his voice. We immediatly took my dog to an emergency clinic, but it was already too late.

I then reported this to the campus police. The police clld the guy to ask what happnened. Thankfully, the guy admitted fault and said he will take responsibility. the cop called me back and said that I can call him and we can negotiate.

I really dont know what to do. My dog is a 13 week old welsh corgi, and we had it for about 2 months. I dont know what to 'negotiate.' I hate the guy, to tell you the truth. He killed my dog. My dog literally died in our arms while we were driving to the hospital.

I"m not in the mood to call him now, but when I call him, what do I say? We lost a live being, a best friend, there is really no dollar value that can replace this. I just dont know what to do from here.

anybody ever have this experience. what do I do?

Anyone who craps this thread will be out of here for a nice long vacation!

*update on this*:

I talked to him on the phone and he told me to go find estimates on how much it would cost to replace the pet and send him an email of the costs with the vet costs. I feel better that he is willing to do something to replace, but it still sucks that we have to go through this in the first palce. Now First of all, my dog is a gift so I dont have a specific replacement cost on this, and we probably dont have proof of how much was paid for. second of all, the corgi pets range in price, so I'm worried that if I quote him a price, he will disagree and want to just pay the lowest cost. We have the right to set the price and he should not be able to dispute it right?

if a dog can really cost that much, then we have a right to get that much right?

Pick whatever pet you want (a Welsh Corgi though) and send him the bill. I think the only reason he's offering to pay is that he doesn't want to go to court. The guy seems like a real d!ck the way he handled the situation. If it ever went to trial, any judge who is a dog owner would fvck him up real good.

And eventually the whole world would be blind.

I'm deeply sorry for your loss and ugly shock of having your poor pooch die in your arms.

First thing, don't call the guy until you can calm down enough to deal with him in an unemotional, businesslike manner. You will most likely not get any "emotional closure" from him, so don't look for it.

Finally, 2x what waggy said: Dun him for the vet bill and full replacement cost and no, you can't sue for emotional trauma with a pet, they are considered simply property by the law.

Also, have your wife or someone else on the extension when you call him so you will have a witness to what he agrees to. People have been known to subsequently stall or renege on their promises.

how would the whole world go blind?

Take a Look at My Thread for appx Value. My puppies are pureBred (no papers) and are reasonably priced. My Male (the father) cost me $1000, and the mother (because she had no papers avaialble) cost me $500.

Good Luck and I am very sorry to hear about the loss of such a wonderful dog as a Corgi.

get your revengeon the guy.............then please please adopt a pet. Go to your local pound, take a look at all the poor dogs locked up in cages, just because some idiot decided to get a pet and suddenly got bored or decided it was too much hassle.

i am terribly sorry to hear this, me being a dog lover I would be very hurt for a long time if this happened to one of my 2 weenie dogs. I consider them to be my kids, my girlfriend doesnt understand how i can love 2 dogs so much, but i have had them since college and they have always been there for me. Anyways corgi's range from $400-1000 just make sure you have him get you one from a reputable breeder with all the papers etc. Ok i cant read this post anymore it hurts me even thinking of this happening to my dogs.

IMO, the guy's dog should be put down - I'd lobby hard for it if I was in the same situation. It's obviously a menace due to it's arsehole owner.

Find a breeder (do NOT go to a pet store) and get a price on a similar dog. Then let him know what it is. If he refuses let him know that you'll then have to file a complaint with the police against him and his dog. I'm sure replacing the dog is cheaper than police fines and jail time.
